Malt'n Gold Small Bar — Restaurant in Fremantle

I had my 32nd birthday event here - we booked a Whisky Masterclass for 16 people, and four non-whisky drinkers attended also.

Nathan, part owner of the venue, spent time over the phone establishing exactly what I wanted out of the experience (for me: smokey, peated Islay Whisky). He was able to tailor an forgettable experience that was thoroughly enjoyed by all 20 people who attended. From the selection of whiskies we tasted, to the engaging and informative presentation for each tasting, I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect. The venue is comfortable, cosy, and sociable (music level was set perfectly for conversation). The staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The side-by-side comparison between bourbon barrel and sherry cask finished whiskies was a great learning experience and on of my favourite aspects of the masterclass.

Even the attendees who didn't drink whisky found the experience fascinating and enjoyable. The team certainly under-promised and over-delivered, as per Nate's motto!

Had an outstanding experience at Malt n Gold Small Bar when we visited a few weeks ago on a Friday. When we walked in, we were the first two in the bar, which made the whole visit feel even more personal. Blake looked after us and took the time to walk me through each whisky, explained what paired well, and did it all in a really approachable, non-judgemental way. You can tell he is passionate about what he does and wants people to enjoy the spirit, whether they’re beginners or seasoned whisky fans.

The bar itself is a brilliant little spot in Fremantle, with a huge whisky selection and a warm, intimate atmosphere. I told Blake on the night that I’d leave a review because the service truly stood out.

I’ve already told multiple coworkers about the place, and two of them have either attended or booked in for one of the tasting courses after hearing about my experience. That alone says a lot.

If you’re a whiskey lover (or even just curious), this place is an absolute gem. The selection is incredible—everything from rare single malts to smooth, small-batch bourbons. The staff really know their stuff and are happy to guide you based on your taste. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and perfect for sipping something special. I tried a few recommended by the bartender and discovered two new favorites. Can’t wait to come back and explore more of the menu. Highly recommended!
