33 years in WA and can only count on one hand how many nights I have dined out in Freo.

We were heading to the Norfolk Hotel tonight for their amazing meat board with vegetable board, but on the way back to our accommodation, stumbled across Joy Kitchen.

It was Saturday they only open on the evening at weekends, however it looked lovely through the window.

Come 6:30 pm we decided Joy kitchen would be the go tonight, so rang to see if we could book at short notice.

They said we are busy, but if you can come at 7:45 pm that would be ok.

We wandered down Arundel Street where we were staying and as we turned the corner, we could see every table was full, good to see, but our heart sank.

All good though, our table was reserved and our waiter attentively opened our byo wine and brought the right glasses.

The menu was fairly concise compared to other Chinese restaurants, but definately considered.

You will see from the pictures, we were very pleased with the dishes we ordered, and highly recommend them all.

However................ what made it the perfect night for celebrating Samanths's birthday weekend was the attention to detail from the staff....... absolutely outstanding and a compliment to the owners who I believe have been in business for 27 years... no wonder.

Thank you to Jeff, for the attention to detail.... he brought love bird candles, a birthday ice cream with candle and even sang happy birthday.

Longest review I have ever written, but...

Hi, we always visit joy kitchen since it was on the other side in parry St or Adelaide Street in Fremantle. The food is undoubtedly very good and fresh. Just couple of days ago when we visit there once again for dinner I was just shocked how I was treated. However, it was not that busy as so many tables still free. We ordered our food which was a simple order. Just three dishes altogether. Surprisingly, no one served the food onto my table until 7 pm. We placed our order at around 6 and the food was served at 7:10 almost an hour later. And, for that I have to call a guy and notified him to cancel my order as me and my friend were just annoyed and the mood was spoiled. The guy said sorry for the delay and that's it. We noticed that food was being served to tables which came after us. When I said this to the owner lady she gave me witchy look like she wants to throw me out of the window. I said to her straight away that you may have plenty of customers but we will not come to your place again......she did not anything. Very rude and actually I missed a meeting because of this late treatment. The owner lady must have big pride of her big name restaurant....

This's one of our favourite restaurant but we were very disappointed tonight about the foods. San choy bau was salty with tooo much oyster & soy sauce in it. So we ordered an extra entree of the peking duck pancake but it was also exactly the same taste of the sauces of the San choy bau.🤪😏 Then the main meal chilli pepper squids comes with EXTRA salty salt on it... we were cope up with badly salt tonight hey & have to returned salt squids straight back to the kitchen & steam rice also very dry 🥺😕☹️ Hmmmm.... we thought they must changed the chef but the waiter says still the same so dunno why the foods comes that salty ever & the owner also knows our complaints but he/she wouldnt careless beside just gives us a debt looks & still charged the same price for a salty meals that we didnt enjoy at allllll...😛😋😅🤔🤔🤫🤫 Ooohhh well.... Paid Hight price for unpleasant meals that we have never had it here so absolutely won't rush back 4sure or probably would never come back with the salty foods 2/10 like tonight 👎🥺 Don't mind paying but with a poor quality foods like this is absolutely unacceptable & unfair...

Very very busy on a Friday evening, it is a huge restaurant that seems popular with Aussies - I saw only a single other Asian diner. Very friendly service and all the staff speak English, and the interior was nice. Got the crab sweet corn soup, sizzling pepper beef, and sizzling garlic prawns. The flavour was pretty good, but the serving size was a bit smaller and the price a bit higher than other Chinese restaurants. The main reason I wouldn't return is that the service was veeery slow, it takes a while to get your order taken and then there is a very long wait until food comes out. Like other Chinese restaurants the food comes out at misc times based on when it's ready, in this case with the kitchen being soo slow it doesn't work too well as I could see many tables only getting some dishes when they were almost done with their meal. Overall not too bad though since the flavour is fine.

Really nice Chinese restaurant South of the River. From the ambience, the service to the tasty food everything was remarkable. What was most impressive was the speed of the food being cooked. It took like less then 10 minutes like super fast to get the meals from ordering to the table. This applies to both food and the drinks 🍹to be made. We had appetisers, mains and dessert with drinks on top and could not fault anything. Probably the Cantonese fried rice was the most subpar dish out of it all but everything else was presented well, tasted yummy and the prices was pretty reasonable for a kind of poshy Chinese place. So if you live south of the river and want a really good Chinese restaurant that is a bit more upmarket then this place should be on top of your list!!!
