When many restaurant choices are available it is sometimes hard to pick one from the bunch. We were left with such a "dilemma" (certainly a good dilemma to be in!!), at Sanctuary Cove. We chose Jonez on Food as their menu seemed exciting! We had not been able to go out for a long time and our 38th Wedding anniversary and Australia Day seemed the perfect time to go to lunch. Arriving at the restaurant we were greeted by the lovely staff. The menu had so many choices, that we were already planning our next visit. The menu was perfect, the staff seemed perfect, the weather was perfect and i was with the perfect man (well almost!). That is s lot of perfects! I started with the sushimi. There were many different types of roe that had many flavours and my mouth kept popping, loved the green one especially. The seafood had been treated with respect and i think the large plate helped you navigate the many flavours . We had made a deal that we would go half, half with each other. Whilst his scallops with Black pudding was lovely i really didn't want to share my plate! Second course i had lamb cutlets ( it was Australia Day after all!) and again it was perfect. The myriad of flavours meant that every part of the plate hid little surprises. The chef had coupled flavours and ingredients thatt harmonized . Another perfect! Peter had the special of Barimundi which also delicious. Then we looked at the dessert menu and had already made the decision of eating dessert. I had a beautiful tart of banana and butterscotch which was, wait for it, perfect. Peter had the bread and butter pudding which normally i don't like, it was beautiful and the custard was heavenly. Peter also had the suggested dessert wine. That was the end of a perfect luncheon. It was nice to sit in a lovely restaurant which had table clothes and napkins. The decor is beautiful. The restaurant was full but it didn't feel it. The staff were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine. It was amazing when listening to the staff when querying a menu choice, the amount of work and ingredients contained in that item. We enjoyed not having each item delivered as soon as you finished each course. They were not trying to rush you out the doors so that they could reset. Having health problems and unable to eat peppers, capsicum and chilli, usually leaves me the choice of 2 menu items. There wasn't 1 item i couldn't eat, nice change. It is not a cheap choice for a quick lunch. It is a place to go and enjoy the company that you are with. Sit back and relax and know you will enjoy. On a side note it would be fantastic to be given a card with your menu choices so they you can read about the hard work that has gone into each and every ingrediant and cooking. That cant happen as they are chefs...
Read moreThe food was cold it was very outdated and to be honest a bit tacky with the dusty fake flowers on the table etc the older lady who opened the front door for us sighed at us then said whatâs your name no hello no nothing then pointed to the back of the restaurant and said youâre over there in the corner. The sourdough was pumpkin seeds of some sort was terrible, the oysters had spawned the chateaubriand was dry and the sides were stone cold the bernaise was too vinegary and they just plonked the sauces down with zero explanation. So we guessed for ourselves what they were wonât be back front of house needs people who are friendly and welcoming and the chefs food is from the 80âs and 90âs and is outdated cold and served without a smile. Disappointing all round. I took it home to feed it to my dog so it didnât go to waste. The vegetables were cold and there was only two slices of the meat that were medium rare if your staff actually took any notice we didnât finish the oysters nobody asked us how our meal was throughout we couldnât get the Asian ladyâs attention to tell her the veggies were cold and I dont believe as a customer you should have to get out of your seat to get a waiters attention. Also Iâm well aware what we ordered was retro as you put it Iâm talking about how the vegetables are presented and cooked they were below average. Your demographic seems to be the older generation which obviously suits the restaurants style. Your front of house manager needs a break obviously as she was so rude and we honestly considered walking back out had we not have pre ordered the meal. We wish you all the best clearly you have a lot of supporters unfortunately itâs not at our level of...
