You would be surprised to find out that although our eldest daughter and I are currently obsessed with K-dramas and her K-pop..... it was my son who wanted Korean fried chicken.
There are quite a few options within a few minutes of each other but the menu pictures were the biggest draw card.
As my 3 eldest children ditched us for 'better plans' my husband, son and I splurged on a number of delicious options.
Boneless fried chicken half honey soy half sweet chilli with a side of garlic yoghurt, lets just say yummo!! The sweet Chili was not overly spicy although you can ask them to turn up the heat. But that garlic yoghurt took the fried chicken to the next level.
We had a delicious melted cheese, mushroom and chicken dish with spicy sauce.... can't remember the name but that was my favourite. We ordered a medium side of rice which was nice to break the flavours.
We also tried the cheese balls dusted in parmesan. They were a nice side, a little odd to me as I didn't expect it to be slightly sweet with spice. Would I have it again.... yeah, but not my first choice.
Price point was a little higher per dish. Can't compare to the value of an all you can eat venue per head. But lets compare apples with apples. Are the prices enough to stop me from returning? no, but it wouldn't stop me from shopping around either when I'm feeling more budget conscious.... ie when our older children decide they've spent enough of thier own money and want to spend mine 😆.
You know the food has got to be good when people from the country of origin frequent it, which they certainly did in the droves.
As a bonus they have filtered water on tap, a hand basin for sticky fingers and a huge TV with...
Read moreThere’s something about Korean fried chicken that hits the soul—especially when you find it in a place like Southport, Queensland where I've been more that pleasantly surprised by the the absolute hotbed of delicious and authentic Asian cuisine. The sweet chili sauce at this place? Damn near life-changing. It’s not just a sauce; it’s a revelation. One bite and suddenly you're questioning all your past choices in takeout. And the fact that they’ll sell you a takeaway tub of the stuff for a couple bucks? It’s like they know how much you’re going to crave it later, in the dark hours of the night.
This place is casual—perfectly so. No pretensions. Just a fridge full of soju, tables crowded with families and solo diners alike, and the kind of kimchi station that makes you wonder why every restaurant doesn’t operate this way. Want more? Go get more. It’s the kind of simplicity that makes dining feel like home.
The staff? Saints. They tolerate my tipsy antics with a smile and don't even flinch when my kids—who seem allergic to sitting in one spot—are wreaking havoc. Extra chocolate sauce for the ice cream without asking? That’s customer service that’s not just attentive; it’s intuitive.
And here’s the kicker: despite the crowds—because trust me, there are crowds—they actually seem to care. You get the sense that they want you to come back, that this isn’t just a job to them. It’s rare. With the reasonable prices, that full fridge of soju calling your name, you’ll want to return again, and again. And let’s face it, you will and so will I, with friends, cause that's what...
Read moreFried chickens were great, to be honest. I am a Korean from Melbourne but the chickens here were one of the best chickens I tasted so far. 👍 However, the staff was not very friendly. When our family walked in, there was no one in the hall. 4 staff in the kitchen just stared at us without welcoming us. Soon after, a female staff came out from the back kitchen and guided us to the table. There was a special event- free beers or soju between 4-6pm. We went in the shop before 6pm. I asked the female staff if I could still get the free beers as the time was 6:04 when I ordered. She stared at me and said no. That was it. Of course, it was okay not to get any free beer but I believe she could explain in a friendly way. When we left the restaurant, I said goodbye in Korean, but no one answered back. There were 3 staff at the counter. Even I made eye contact with one of the female staff and said ‘잘 먹었습니다‘ but no answer. Very disappointing. It is very pity when the staff had no idea how important customer service is. I hope the owner takes this advice more seriously. I hope more people experience great welcoming customer service as well as nice food. So people...
