Main Beach Fish Grotto — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

we went there seeing the 5 star eating and as our children craved fish and chips. We were told they were too busy to do rice paper rolls , so opted for the salmon grilled x 2 . Banh mi and some chips for the children. The person at the counter said 40 min. So we went and waited in the car. Came at 30 min to enquire whether to food at least the chips were ready as the kids were getting cranky. As soon as I walked in the person at the counter said they had no salmon left and could you be happy with the crumbed hoki fish instead. There was miscommunication from the kitchen etc. Should have said that when we ordered and paid. Asked for a refund and left. Absolutely worst service ever. The food might be great, though we did not get to taste it.Went to the restaurant opposite and had a fantastic time. Would not be returning here...

In short: the portions were inconsistent. We ordered 1 portion of crumbed flathead and 5 portions of battered flathead, and received roughly half as much crumbed as battered. In their mind some of the 5cm long pieces they provided count as a portion? We should have received 5x as much battered - that's what we paid for, and it wasn't cheap. Furthermore we ordered a large chips which is stated as 800g, but it was more like 400g. They also asked if we wanted regular or chicken salt, and I asked for chicken salt but, they used regular anyway. Contrary to other reviews here, the chips were fine. Worst chips and service ever. We called for pickup and ordered a medium chips with extra chicken salt, the container was half full with no salt. I went back in, asked for clarification on the quantity and for extra chicken salt like we paid for, with a shocking response form the owner himself. Instead of an apology, he told me they “have scales out the back” and he wouldn’t correct the proportions. I complained about paying $10.50 for a handful, stating we wouldn’t have ordered had we known this would be the service and quality, to which he stared at me blankly. At least he gave us extra salt - but I won’t...
