The sapphire day did not resemble the storm of entangled thoughts which thundered through my mind while I was peering into the horizon from an apartment perched on Burleigh Hill. The scream of silence was deafening: I had to escape the harrowing precipice of walls immediately.
I decided to stroll along James Street to give flight to these encumbered thoughts. To the same sky I often rail against I decided to employ a different tactic: I implored it for an opening to grant but a moment of pleasantness and serenity.
As I released my request on its voyage into the crystalline day my eyes drifted from the sky's apogee back to the earth in a moment of stillness. As my awareness oriented itself to where I was standing I observed that I was on the threshold of a curious café that I have not tried before.
With my interest kindled I decided to follow its urging. I ordered a coffee which to my complete astonishment mirrored a favorite coffee of mine from my home country, yet done even better. I mentioned what it reminded me of to the in-house coffee artisan who crafted it. I was bewildered by his response: he fashioned it to not only match but to improve upon the notes of that exact coffee as he is from my home country as well! It appeared that my beseech rang true as the caffeine linearized my thoughts in a beautiful juxtaposition where the edge of inner darkness was enlightened by the radiance sparked by ethereal nectar. As a self-confessed coffee snob this is truly the best damn coffee in the world. My QUEST for the perfect coffee has...
Read moreWe're always on a quest to find the best coffee shops wherever we go, and we definitely found the best one in Burleigh Heads! My hubby and I recently stayed in beautiful Burleigh Waters for a few days during a big trip to Australia. We already knew that the coffee culture in this amazing country is a big deal, and couldn't wait to sip flat whites every day at various cafes we'd already researched from Sydney to the Gold Coast to the Whitsundays! Once we arrived in Burleigh Heads, we checked out Quest one morning, and quickly realized that this was THE place to be! We ended up going every morning and loved the laid back ambiance and friendly, local vibes. Even the owner seemed to know everyone on a first name basis and greeted everyone! Our coffees were always perfectly rich, bold and balanced, and they paired so nicely with one of their delicious baked goods (everything is baked in-house btw!). What made our experience even better was that they had a variety of yummy vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options. Our favorites were their banana bread and zucchini & pineapple bread, which they even toasted for us. We honestly miss this place already and wish they had a location here in the Bay Area (CA). Guess we'll just have to find a way to get back to the Gold...
Read moreI recently visited Quest, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. I ordered a coffee with oat milk, but the milk was chunky and undrinkable. I politely asked for my drink to be remade, as I’d paid $10 and expected it to meet a reasonable standard.
The barista, a shorter blonde lady, was extremely rude. She insisted the chunky texture was just how the oat milk was, which I know from my own experience as a barista is simply not true. I even showed her my friend’s drink, which also had oat milk and was perfectly smooth, proving this issue could have been resolved with a simple shake of the milk.
After this exchange, I requested a refund. Only then did the barista offer to remake the drink, but at that point, I declined. To top it off, I wasn’t even refunded the full amount I had paid.
I left feeling upset and unwelcome. A simple acknowledgment of the issue and a willingness to fix it would have turned this situation around, but the rude attitude and lack of professionalism were unacceptable. I won’t...
