Runaway Bay Tavern — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

Came for the Mothers day buffet, was the worst experience I've ever had... $28 we thought was too good to be true, turned out it was. No toast was available, if you wanted it, you bad to ask. The sauce selection at the end of the buffet was confusing as all hell, as next to the raspberry jam was what looked like cream... no it was aioli, we even had to keep telling other customers not to put it on their waffles, and we were the customers! There were never clean plates available, we had to keep asking, and the juice bar was always empty, also had to keep asking. The "scones" that were advertised on the mother's day menu weren't there, instead there were rock hard muffins. Our coffee order I gave to the staff at the beginning of our reservation got given to us when we were leaving, which was over an hour later!!! There is so so much more, but I'll leave it with that. We paid for 5 people, $28 per head, what a waste of money! Can understand that there was a staffing issue, but this event should have been cancelled if there were issues leading into the morning. I hope that in future you look bad on this morning circus and really plan these functions in future, there were a lot of unhappy customers there this morning, on what is supposed to be a happy morning spent with family.

We have eaten here before and the food and atmosphere are so so but for a local acceptable. We won’t be going back. We arrived on a Sunday at 2pm to have 2 young men who had just been evicted yelling vile abuse at my partner and attempting to engage him in a fight - we had never come across these young men in our life. Another patron attempted to settle them down as the language they used was inappropriate given there were families around and it’s shared a car park with a shopping center - they punched him. Management had no interest in protecting their patrons or attempt to deescalate these mens abuse. It’s 2pm on a Sunday and these men were not letting up- we did not feel safe to leave the venue but also had no desire to endure the verbal tirade of F-bombs and C-bombs being yelled at my partner. It was upsetting for us and uncomfortable for everyone else in the area. I made a complaint and their management called me but not to apologise or reassure us it was a one off, but rather make me feel unreasonable for making the complaint because her staff told a different story….notably her staff were avoiding the outdoor area where this was occurring the entire time. Sadly tonights "special Tuesday Schnitzel night" was a disaster. Firstly it was falsely advertised. No true Vienna Schnitzels were available for their "special Schnitzel night". If you wanted a plain chicken Schnitzel, you may have been satisfied. Although "Vienna Schnitzel" was not on the Schnitzel night menu, it was available at full price from the Ala Carte' menu.

As I only went to the venue for a Vienna Schnitzel, I ordered one and paid the $8 difference. It arrived as a soggy mess. No outer crumb crispness and the meat was tough, certainly not veal. It had been pre-made, microwave defrosted and then thrown into a not to correct temperature fat fry. Yuk!!

The chips as served to me were soggy and cold. My partner was lucky to have hers served hot and crisp. How that happened when both were served at the same time can only be guessed at, however quality control in the kitchen was not just lacking; it couldn't have been in existence at all.

The salad was served directly onto my plate and was floating in an overbearing cheap salad dressing which conveniently disguised any other flavors that may have been in the fresh salad.

I can only suggest that their is no system of quality food checks before sending it out to the "mug" customers.
