UPDATE: arrived there last night at 5pm on the dot and we were lucky to get a booking, the place heaving with customers, providing a real vibe - even with the extra tables outside and extra tables inside ! - there would not be a restaurant in the whole GC even Broadbeach, or BNE so busy on a Tuesday night let alone suburban Nerang. Kah is a legend. The number of Thai's who eat at this restaurant in suburban Nerang, should tell you everything you need to know. Owner Kaah, isn't just the most engaging host for authentic, great Issan Thai, but clearly loved by her community. Her staff equally enthusiastic-knowledgeable about the food they serve, and produce they sell in the attached mini-store. In short, this is the most authentic Issan (non-coconuty- northern spicy, sour, salty herbal) Thai you can find anywhere outside northern Thailand, let alone in suburban Nerang. Yes they do the standards inc. Pad Thai and creamy coconut stuff but... If you know the importance of David Thompson to Thai food in Australia (an Australian chef commissioned by the Thai government to document the history of Thai food), you need to know this restaurant. Authenticity is everything. The Som Tum with pickled crab alone, is worth a visit (a dish for the true-believers) - sometimes even includes sour 'hog plums' and those tough bitter green eggplants, rarely seen outside Thailand. Ask for "Thai spicy" if you dare 🌶🌶🌶🌶 (I lost sight in one eye for around 10m). Aside from great weekly specials (ask Kaah to translate), must have dishes (aside from the Som Tum pickled crab) include bbq chicken with sticky rice, bone soup, Pad Kaprow and Laab Gai (not on menu). Start with at least one serve of the sour Issan sausages - HF good. Issan in the membrane

Gob smacked at my experience and treatment this evening! After ordering and paying on the website and receiving confirmation of order time I headed down to collect dinner for our family of 4. Upon arrival was told they didn’t have an order for me but I could place it again and they would make it straight away. Produced my phone order showing time food would be ready to collect and evidence of the payment from my bank account and was told they didn’t have the order or payment as apparently they are under new ownership and the website belongs to the previous owner!! Even though it still allows orders to be placed, no warnings to alert to the issue, and payments taken. I was told the payment would bounce back in 2-3 days and if I wanted to receive any food I would need to pay for a whole new order and wait 20 minutes with my 2year old at almost 7pm!! Who has a spare $80+ to throw around at the moment for a business’ incompetence. Disgusting customer service, zero compassion or understanding. Staff that talk over you and a super rude manger not worth speaking to. Shame really as we’ve been eating there for years. Never again!!! BEWARE. EDIT- reply from restaurant again passing blame to the customer with no accountability or customer service skills. Photos to show order was placed. Website did not say ā€˜we are closed’ and even if it did, that does NOT tell a consumer that the website is obsolete and restaurant under new management! Turn it off, stop the payment section being able to take payments! And have some understanding above all! 2nd EDIT - payment has now cleared and ACCC contacted

Since I saw the name of this place, eating there became my mission. I finally achieved it last weekend, and parking in front of a travel agent with the photo of a large cruise ship made it even more magical. Now, I could only pick one dish, and I went for the Ga Pao, Krapao, or basil stir fry. The mince could have been softer in some spots, but the taste was great. I asked for a "mild" version because I am not good with spicy food, and yet, it was tasty and somewhat spicy, without hurting. My partner had some pork belly, but I can't comment on it, as I'm not a fan. Then, we finished with the mango and coconut ice creams. Nice large portions, and the pieces of coconut and mango really complimented it. By the time I thought about taking a photo, they were both finished... The prices were honest too, especially compared to the portions. Yes, this place was nearly everything I had dreamt of. If it had had a Titanic model or an iceberg in it, the "atmosphere" section would have received 5+ stars. Jokes aside, I'll definitely be back. We have now been here half a dozen times, always excellent. Their curry and papaya salad are excellent too.

Wow! The service by one lass was completely inappropriate description she utilised was ā€œdon’t be discriminativeā€ , at least 4 people behind me trying to order, sadly she didn’t nor couldn’t understand English, I replied ā€œyou do realise that you are suggesting strong words without any contextā€, very simple minded and uneducated, thankfully we had a lovely lass that took over after she started crying ( mind you she was 30+ years of age so she should have known better) the lass that took over and handled the situation was 12 out of 10, food was authentic, sad that one staff member that has no idea can spoil the evening.

Please learn that we are paying customers, all we wanted was to order, and leave, you sincerely need to be aware of what words you utilise to customers. I hope it’s all on camera as you have no idea how to be polite.

Simple.

Great food, compliments to the chef, sadly teach the waitress that being discriminative is completely uncalled for in Australia, I was shocked to hear the words yet all I wanted to do was order and pay for my meal.

Thaitanic - REPLYING TO YOUR REPLY I can assure you that I was not mocking the waitress, absolutely NEVER DID I LAUGH AT HER, I am nearly 50 this behaviour would be completely inappropriate to do so to her or anyone. Please teach your staff manners and to act in a professional manner, my friend and I both asked another staff member of she was ok. For your staff member to be yelling at the counter saying I’m being discriminative was completely uncalled for and extremely immature as that was not the case what’s so ever. You as A Buissness should have kindly apologies, sad on...
