This is the 5th and last time of dining here. Last night we had a booking for 4 people at 6.30. Restaurant was busy but not full. Waited about 20 minutes before we saw any food then was served 1 plate of honey chicken. We waited about 15 minutes and none of our other meals had been served, other tables were getting served meals here and there. I spoke to the owner at the desk and said the honey chicken had obviously gone cold because we didn't want to share just 1 plate of food....previously dining there we were served all of the ordered meals at the same time. She told me they were extremely busy and couldn't keep up. I said we would wait for all of our meals to be served together and I asked for the honey chicken that was on our table to be taken away and served once all our meals were ready. She was hesitant to oblige and only took the plate of honey chicken away once some of the other food arrived and obviously put the honey chicken in the microwave to re-heat. We ordered 2 different chicken dishes, the chicken was 'stringy' and horrible to eat. The beef in the beef and black bean was chewy. The food was very sub-par overall in comparison to what we had experienced on previous visits here and the portions were extremely small. The waitress was very young and although I'm sure she did her best, the service last night was poor. When paying the owner/lady who calculates and takes payment told me that the night before was very quiet but tonight was busy. She offered no apology and no discount, not that I asked for a discount but in the name of customer service for a bill of $144 for 4 people (no drinks as we only had table water and a 1 can of coke the whole time) she should have offered some type of discount because I made it quite clear I wasn't happy. Plenty of other places around so won't be wasting any more money...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a fantastic restaurant that truly impressed us and highly recommend to anyone looking to dine at an authentic Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant.

From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with a warm welcome by the friendly staff. It’s a family run business and what a beautiful hard working family they are- they’ve done an incredible job and they stop at nothing to ensure you’re looked after from the moment you step in there til the moment you leave. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with traditional Asian style decor that adds to the overall dining experience.

The menu is extensive, with a wide range of dishes that cater to all tastes and dietary requirements. Satay chicken- amazing. Rusty Nails (beef with honey and spices and yumness)- close runner up. To be honest there wasn’t anything we didn’t enjoy about our dining experience.

What really stood out to me was the incredible value for money, the portions are generous, and the quality and freshness of the ingredients was first class. we had enough food left over that we could have fed another 3 adults so 3 meals rice and entree fed all of us - well (3x adult diners).

Highly recommend you take a visit there to Merlin- if you don’t like it then check in with your taste buds to see if...

I had the most disgusting and worst fried rice ever in my life. Firstly, the rice had no taste, no proper oiliness and the rice was very mushy and misshapen. Also, they advertised 3 prawns but tonight they only had 2. And both the rice and prawns were cold. I can't believe the rice and prawns in the fried rice were cold! How is that possible? It was obvious that the fried rice was not just made. The fried rice must have been taken out of the freezer and defrosted. That's why the rice and prawns were cold, the rice grains were misshapen and the fried rice had no taste at all. I was so sad because we waited for over an hour. They were prioritizing the takeaway customers' orders over the dining customers' orders. It was disrespectful to us. We watched the people who came after us get their food. We watched the people who came after us get their takeaway food for over an hour. And after waiting for more than an hour, the cold and unpalatable fried rice was served. Also, many people were overflowing into the restaurant waiting for their takeaway orders. Some people stared at me when I put the food in my mouth. Their stares made me feel awkward. They must have been hungry after waiting so long. I will never go to this place again.

I found myself in Capalaba around lunchtime and had a craving for Vietnamese or Thai cuisine. A quick search of Googles best in the area and I found Melin, winner of the best restaurant in Redlands. This is classic, old school suburban Asian that we all grew up to love but Melin has gone above and beyond the standard aussie chinese fare. I ordered the 'roll yourself' sugar cane prawns woth rice paper. The plate came overflowing with fresh vegetables, crispy lettuce and fresh mint (see photo) plus a generous side of rice paper wraps. In the middle of tha plate were three plump, crispy and aromatic fried sugar cane prawns parcels. This is as good as 'activity food' gets and I had a wonderful time rolling the delicious morsels up with different combinations of the accompaniaments and a mouth watering, very spicy dipping sauce. The service was delightful, very friendly and welcoming for a rainy Monday and I felt like I had been a regular there for 10 years. Add to that, it is BYO so I might even venture back there one day from the other side of the city and bring a few friends with me.

The photo of the salt and pepper quail has two pieces missing, it looked and smelled too good. My son and I had to taste it before the phone was taken out for the 📸. And yes, it did taste as good as it looked. I must say, salt and pepper quail is my all-time favourite. The owner Monica was so lovely, we had a great time chatting. Melin uses only the best top-quality ingredients, all dishes were fresh and delicious. Next time I am going to try their Vietnamese cuisine, the price was on the high side for a local Chinese restaurant. I wouldn't call it a take-out place, as it is set up for a comfortable dine-in meal. If you are a local I would recommend you try it. It was a very enjoyable experience.
