Being gluten intolerant is one of the hardest things to come to terms with when you're eating out. However, Savige's met us half way with their gluten free range. To explain their 3 stars has a lot to do with the flavouring, it just wasn't there and that's super disappointing due to the cost you pay extra, I mean add an extra surcharge here and there, because of gluten free foods. As pictured, there is calamari, well it was like eating rubber and that's not the only disappointment, it was the flavourings on top, it was literally sprinkled on, nothing was cooked in it so it was plain with rubber flavouring on top. The chips were great, the lemons were sour and juicy, just liked you'd expect and then there was the sea scallop, that was beautiful! It honestly boosted this rating from a 1 to a 2! & then the fish, well it deserves its own section. The fish, can't recall the name but its one of the offers they've got for gluten free and it was to die for! Honestly, it was cooked to perfection and yum! Sad part was that wasn't a lot of it. Overall, Savige's get a 3, so much let it down considering the cost of fish and chips and the extra gluten free surcharges.

I am on the search for the best pineapple fritter. Saviges was better than both Pigface and Mojos on the other side of the island but could do better. The fritter was small but deliciously battered with a sort of donut flavour. I specifically asked for cinnamon sugar which they provided but it didn’t stick well to the batter. It was a good pineapple fritter but could have been bigger. The salt and pepper calamari was delicious and served in a exquisite fried ring of rings that was connected in the middle. However since it was still connected the process of tearing it apart to eat meant you lost a lot of the crumb and it became messy. The menu here looked good and seemed popular I look forward to coming back.

First timers went after being told it was a locals favourite. It was ok but not the best we’ve tried. The seafood basket had 4 pieces fish, 2 seafood sticks, 2 huge king prawns, calamari, chips (they forgot the lemon). We ordered an extra serve of S&P calamari. Cost $32 and a couple of beers around $12. Calamari was a little tough and the batter fell off when pulling apart. They don’t sell as rings, calamari is left whole, sliced and fried. Chips were nice and crunchy and the king prawn delicious. Outside bench seating only. They flies and ibis a nuisance. Don’t think I’d hurry back but seems to be popular with the locals.

We visited here due to the large number of good reviews, but unfortunately this probably was one of the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Service was quick and friendly, and the fish was fresh, but the flavours were so wrong. We couldn't finish and had to throw away.

The crumb is quite different to normal. I can't put my finger on the flavour, but I definitely don't love it...but the other issue is that it doesn't stick to the food and falls off in small clumps like flaked pastry! Such a waste. And yucky. Oily flavour, nothing else.

Calamari not cut properly and was a huge clump. I had to manually separate the 10 pieces because only half of the calamari had been sliced. The flavour was quite nice actually, tasted really fresh, but no crumbs left after handling and cutting due to above issue.

Chips were blah. Absolutely nothing special and often tasted undercooked and pasty.

Ordered a piece of barramundi. It was cooked to perfection and very moist, but the horrible crumb ruined it.

Another key issue for everything was that there was no salt provided on any of the food! I understand that it must be hard to cater to everyone and people will either complain about too much or too little salt...but the benefit of putting salt on after cooking is that it is actually absorbed and does flavour the food! We ate on site, but still, the food was not hot enough to absorb the salt we put on. It just fell off. Deep fried food desperately needs salt, and it's an expected flavour, so it was seriously a let down.

The quality of the fish and calamari was very evident, it tasted so fresh, however that quality means nothing if you can't follow through with basic seasoning and taking care about how...

A great feed of fish and chips at Bongaree on Bribie Island. Very well priced, good feeling eating outside at their tables. Shop is well laid out and smart direct outside serving area. Well catered for as well. Smart idea to have it licenced as well in that area meaning not chasing drinks for a night out. Only question was over what I thought was closing too early especially as they had icecream and coffee available, but by the time you ate it was all over and packed away, yet people were still turning up looking for seafood or fish and chips. (Seems we can't quite match other states or overseas in the fact that not everybody wants or needs or can eat early.) I know it is often a long day for businesses but then that is the business and need to cater to attract people more. Otherwise you can't go wrong here and not enjoy the lovely well cooked food and surrounds. (Note: in Australia it is "take away" not American "take out" - it's annoying to many and needs to be fixed in the blurb...
