DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!! Our experience at German Inn Restaurant was absolutely disappointing. We waited over 60 minutes for our food, and during that time, there was no follow-up or communication from the staff about how much longer it would take. When the food finally arrived, it was a complete letdown. The meat platter was cold, and the meat was so tough and chewy it was nearly impossible to eat. I even tried giving some to my dog, but he refused to eat it because it was that bad. The chicken schnitzel came with a handful of chips—barely enough for a meal—and the salad was drenched in dressing, making it soggy and unappetising. To top it off, the pork schnitzel was dry, tasteless, and just poorly prepared. It was clear that the staff were overwhelmed and rushing, but the real issue seems to be poor management. If the restaurant were better organised and properly managed, the workers wouldn’t feel so stressed, and the food wouldn’t have been left sitting in the kitchen. A well-run operation could have avoided such an awful experience. This was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had. Between the long wait, cold food, and poor portion sizes, it was a complete waste of time and money. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Passing by this place and it’s stated it has the best coffee in town. Craved for afternoon tea (read: coffee) we decided to try this place. Nice atmosphere. I prefer the one towards the backside as it had more natural light in. Before you order 🗒️ Once you pick your table, you need your table number (on the table itself) and give it cashier whilst ordering. 🍰 Was going to try the pretzel, to compare it with my usual place. However it didnt look nice so I held back. Beesting? Ran out. Hence the German Apple Cheesecake $6.90. (Note: it was about 3.30pm, and their beesting might be quite popular - but I didnt ask.) Although it didnt look as appealing as I had in mind, the cheesecake was quite moist and great taste of the cheese. I couldn’t say about the apple part, as to me, the cheese was quite overpowering. ☕️ The coffee ordered was cappuccino and vienna coffee. Unexpected to have generous amount of chochips and whipped cream on top of the vienna coffee. It was definitely a nice coffee. Best in town? Can’t confirm as I haven’t tried all the coffees in town (: Bonus 🍾 They have cellar door near the counter. Note: Surcharges paying by card (Based on my calculation, surcharge might be 1%)

German Inn is an absolute gem that I can't wait to revisit! The food here is exceptional, the sausages are perfectly cooked, and the flavors are simply outstanding. It's evident that they take pride in their culinary craftsmanship. The atmosphere at German Inn is spot on, creating a wonderful experience. The ambiance adds to the charm of this place, making it a great spot to enjoy a delicious meal. We also had the pleasure of trying their house beer, which was surprisingly good. One quirky and interesting aspect that caught my attention was the deposit required for the beer jug. It's a unique touch, and they return the money when you bring back the empty jug. It's a fun tradition that adds to the overall experience, and it might be a clever way to prevent souvenir theft! The historical aspect of the restaurant being a former bakery is fascinating, and it adds to the charm of the old German town. German Inn truly offers a memorable experience with delicious food, a great atmosphere, and intriguing historical touches. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

Every few years you have an experience so shockingly rude, that you don't believe it's happening, as it's happening. Thanks to the lady with the MANAGER badge working the coffee machine at the front desk, we can reset that timer.

Partner and I came in for lunch, ordered a beer and a couple of dishes, one of which was buffalo wings. The wings coated in a watery sweet slop of a sauce arrived to our table. Tasting the sauce confirmed our worst suspicions. We hedged our bets and hoped that at least the chicken would be decent. One bite in and the food tasted too chickeney/gamey. The kind where it's as if it tastes cooked and raw at the same time.

Deciding to discuss our experience with the MANAGER was a fatal mistake. The amount of pushback, attitude, dismissal and doubling down that you can fit into 3 minutes, would be a record.

To dilute the conversation on everything we were wrong about: Even though buffalo sauce fundamentally is a sauce that is made with at least vinegar, cayenne pepper, and butter (sometimes Franks Red Hot sauce) as the base, we shouldn't expect something called "Buffalo Wings" to have any of those ingredients in it, and we instead should expect "every restaurant to do buffalo sauce differently" and "the chef makes their sauce at home". Ordering and expecting the thing we ordered, is incorrect.

Chicken tasting too chickeney/gamey is normal because chicken tastes like chicken. It's chicken. (Google: Meet Warmed-Over Flavor)

Instead of offering a refund for the buffalo wings, apologising for the experience or thanking us for providing feedback, instead we got told we were wrong to expect what we ordered, and that if we want they can send the chicken back to the kitchen to have the chef check it to make sure it's safe to eat.

As we had paid for the meal...

I actually don't even know where to begin! I've been here before & it's been lovely, so I'm assuming it's either new management or new staff. However, I can't think of a time I've disliked a cafe experience more than the one I had today.

I was charged almost $24 for 3 mini waffles, all of which came out separately when I asked for them to be served on one plate. I acknowledged this was probably just miscommunication and I received a refund for two of them when I found out what I'd been charged. In the end, my son ended up with a tiny dry waffle with a tiny scoop of icecream that wouldn't even feed a toddler. Even one of the staff members serving us quietly agreed the price was ridiculous.

I payed almost $9 for an apple juice and when the wedges came out they were served with mayonnaise and sweet chilli. When I asked if we could have sour cream instead I was told they hadn't received their delivery and didn't have any. Thankfully neither of us had an allergy to mayo/egg, because we had no idea what we were eating, nor were we warned.

The worst part about it all was when I politely questioned any of these things (Including the $65 I was originally charged), I was made to feel like a 'Karen' and never once received an apology for any of the mistakes made, which made myself and my son so uncomfortable that we left as soon as we could.

The only decent part about the experience was the coffee and why I've given 1 star. There are plenty of great places in Hahndorf to eat for much more reasonable prices. Do yourself a favour & go to...

The worst experience at Hahndorf we have ever had! And we have been coming to Hahndorf for years! This time we thought ok lets try something new the German Inn, should be "authentic German food" experience. We could not be anymore wrong. Food was absolutely horrible . Not just bad but PATHETIC. Sausages were old, sauerkraut wasn't sauerkraut, mashed potato was terrible, Salad was not fresh they couldn't even get the gravy right, it had curry taste in it, I have never had gravy that bad! some of the cutlery on the table was not clean , the service was terrible with the person serving actually handing me the plate over the cutlery box to grab and put down myself! I then watched him serving other people often plonking drinks and plates on the table in a unprofessional manner. While we were reeling from the disgusting failure of an imitation of German food a man came out of the staff only area with a trolley of boxes pushing it through the area where people were eating dodging tables. Unbelievable! This place is an embarrassment to Hahndorf and to German people/food! I am form Europe and I know German food very well. If i could give this review a -1 I would! The owner has NO CLUE what German food and service is! Do yourself a favor and...
