A Delightful but Pricey Pâtisserie Experience
Nestled in the charming town of Richmond, Czegs’ Richmond offers a refined pâtisserie experience that highlights both classic techniques and modern creativity. With a taste rating of 8 out of 10, the desserts here are tender, well-balanced, and crafted with precision. However, the experience was slightly impacted by the indoor seating area being a bit crowded and the presence of some flies, prompting us to opt for outdoor seating. While the fresh air and natural light enhanced the ambiance, it also accelerated the melting of our desserts, slightly affecting the texture. Additionally, while the quality of the desserts is undeniable, the pricing leans towards the expensive side.
Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake: A Decadent Indulgence
The chocolate cherry cheesecake was a highlight, boasting a smooth, creamy texture with a well-baked biscuit base that provided the perfect contrast. The rich chocolate ganache topping added depth, while the decorative swirl of chocolate mousse and the whole cherry on top introduced a pleasant fruity tartness. Despite the slight melting from outdoor seating, the cheesecake maintained its luscious texture, making it a satisfying and indulgent choice.
Chocolate Éclair: Classic with a Refined Touch
The chocolate éclair featured a crisp yet delicate choux pastry filled with silky pastry cream. The glossy chocolate glaze was smooth and rich, striking a well-balanced sweetness without overwhelming the lightness of the filling. The added crushed nuts and dried berries contributed a pleasant crunch and a subtle tartness, elevating the overall flavor. Despite being a well-executed classic, the price felt a bit steep for the portion size.
Lemon Macaron: A Bright and Zesty Delight
The lemon macaron was a refreshing contrast to the richer desserts. Its vibrant yellow shell was crisp on the outside and perfectly chewy inside, while the lemon-infused filling delivered a bright citrusy kick without being overly tart. Unfortunately, the heat from outdoor seating caused it to soften faster than expected, making it slightly challenging to enjoy at its intended texture. While the macaron was expertly crafted, the cost felt high compared to similar offerings elsewhere.
Czegs’ Richmond delivers a sophisticated pâtisserie experience with expertly crafted desserts, delicate flavors, and strong technical execution. However, the indoor seating could be improved in terms of comfort and cleanliness, and the pricing is on the expensive side. If you’re looking for high-quality sweets in Richmond and don’t mind paying a premium, this spot is worth a visit. That said, choosing an indoor table might be the better option to fully enjoy the desserts...
Read moreToday my sister and I went to dine at Ma Foosies for lunch on a beautiful sunny Sunday. As we walked in, I saw on the special board Pumpkin Soup and thought mm yum, this is my favourite lets go in to have some good lunch. When I ordered I was advised they had sold out of soup so I requested the croissant and was advised, this has sold out, we've had a busy day (it was still lunch time at 130pm) so I asked for a description of the Garden Salad Plater, to be advised that it was an assortment of all the salads on their menu - I thought "excellent, that sounds great and I will get walnuts and avocado with that" that was a salad I was contemplating on its own. Our meals arrived around 20 minutes later of which time I had enjoyed a delicious iced chocolate. My sister had ordered a pastie it was presented with no flake pastry but instead looked as though it was pre cooked and frozen then cooked so much in the oven for reheat the it caused the pastry to be burnt and then scraped off so the pastry on sides was no longer golden and on bottom it was burnt with dry meat in the middle. My 'Salad Platter' was 2 chunks of tasty cheese, heaps of lettuce, grated carrot, tinned beetroot, 1 egg with little tea towel hairs on it, one pickled onion, 1/4 raw white onion very tangy, packaged ham, slice cucumber, and a dish of mayo which was hidden by the lettuce - no dressing or avocado or walnuts. Very disappointed and will never be eating there again!!! The service was something to be desired also. To think that Richmond is a well known and frequented little town by many travelled tourists who have eaten around the world, this cafe left me with my hands on my shaking head. I couldn't believe what we had been presented with and could have done better myself at home and for cheaper!!! $20 for a plate of tinned food - I...
Read moreI've been hesitant to write this review, being a local we want our town to kick goals everywhere, but after giving these guys a couple goes now after moving here recently I felt the need to write this:
First time I came in, it was 11:25am, kitchen stops doing breakfast at 11:30am so they didn't want to take my breakfast order. Got a piece of cake and a coffee to go, happy days.
Second time I went in early enough so there would be no reason not to take my breakfast order, ordered eggs benedict. Took 20-25mins to make one serve. Bacon was cold, eggs were cold and hard set, hollandaise sauce was oddly sickly sweet and reminiscent of a cheap tomato sauce tang? Only thing warm on the plate was the one slice of toast, which was quickly becoming a stretch to even call it warm. Told the owner, who took it on board and did genuinely appear annoyed at the chef.
Third time, coffee and cake to go, happy days.
Fourth time, coffee and almond croissant to go. This was at 8:30 in the morning, they were just getting into the swing for the day. Coffee tasted burnt, as if the machine hadn't been cleaned in awhile and granules had built up in the drip. Croissant was packet bought from Coles or Woolies and pumped full of bland frangipane, so much so the inside of the croissant still tasted of raw egg. And as these were just out of the oven and sitting at approximately 30ish degrees, I wouldn't want to be the customer that bought one at the end of the day. Serious Food Safety hazard.
