This place serves the most delicious Indian food you in Australia. The Makkhan chicken was made with chicken marinated with tandoori spices cooked to perfection and then tossed in a mellow sweet spicy tomato base. The dal tadka was spectacular and reminded of my mother’s cooking. The garlic naan were the best we ever had, fluffy and crispy at the same time. This dishes are well priced and the staff is very humble. Compliments to the chef for such amazing flavours. We will definitely be returning.

Decent Indian restaurant. Some of the chairs were extremely filthy. Shouldn't cost a lot to just get a bisso and clean it 🤔. The butter chicken was the best out of all we ordered. The rest of the dishes were ok. The server was kinda confused with the order he took and gave us a different bread, not a deal breaker but could have just said he misunderstood, instead said that's what he calls it at home 🤣.

Had ordered. Take away and asked if can eat there due to change in plans but the restaurant refused to serve us saying that they are busy despite many tables being free as we wanted to order some wine with the meal. They maybe running short of hands but the behaviour was not professional. Also they has recently changed their prices so the meal was more expensive than anticipated. Bad experience 🙁

Staffs are arrogant. Seems they don’t like customer presence. Not a single smile or welcome behaviour. Thintto walk off. One of the expensive restaurant in Hobart, selling ‘Roti’ in $5, really never seen any restaurant in Australia selling in that price. What a joke. I been to Indian restaurant in every city of Australia but this one is unrealistic. Honestly they need to learn how to do their job properly and serve customer. In hospitality industry customer service is number one priority. Looking forward for food quality now. ......

Continue ......

Customer service minus - no welcome. No smile or sign of happiness by seeing customer. Very rude staff who don’t like to work and not seeing any sense of politeness when serving or talking to customers. After making all complaints no discount on final invoice or sign of apologies.

Look and feel - double minus Very old and poor building, zero renovation or care towards handle and doorythat you touch. Chairs and tables are very old and poorly placed. Cut my finger while opening door handle from inside on time of exit. Owner Please spend some money that you are making by robbing your customers

Quality of food - Poor triple minus

Orde Dal tadka. They server watery black dal. Ordered Kadahi Paneer. Very dull and blend taste. I am sure even Aussie will think this is not a taste of India. Very watery. Malai Kofta very blend and no taste in it. Where is that creamy and tasty gravy you look for in malai Kofta. Rice - old rice served and we can feel it by texture and chunk of rice we found in it. Please check photos. I told counter girl that please do not serve such a old rice to at least Indian who can easily judge it that it’s not fresh. Their medium and large dishes have only difference in price but in terms size they are same. Check photos.

Price - Too much expensive. I hv eaten in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane and GoldCoast but this restaurant is one of the worst quality food with higher end price. If you have been to Indian restaurant think about price of Roti. Generally it’s $3-$3.50 but they are serving it for $5. Are you serious. What a good tactic to rob your customers by high price and lower amount of quantity. Their large dish size is big joke.

Overall Worst Experience. We been their due to high ratings and good review in Zomato and TripAdvisor but seriously if you are food lover and looking for good Indian food please by all means AVOID...

I have been to this restaurant 15+ times over the years, it was my ‘go to’ restaurant for a really nice meal. I had a meal there about 6 months ago and it was good but not great. Recently I went there with a small group and it was overall disappointing unfortunately. The guy serving us was polite and captured our order perfectly with a smile. The entrees we great and I enjoyed the Samosa, very tasty and well cooked. The garnishing on the side (lettuce) would have been better left off as it was wilted. (easy enough to ignore but a turn off non the less) The mint sauce was delightful. My main was the beef vindaloo and it was overall disappointing, the beef seemed to be a mix off old and new as some of the meat fell apart and was great but other bits were freshly cooked, I needed a knife to cut it and was really tough. The flavor was good but mild at best (not hot or spicy). I also had a Garlic Nann bread and it was perfect!

We got 2 plates of rice when our mains came out and this was not enough for our table and asked 3 times for more rice and it finally arrived after about 20 minutes. This was disappointing as the mains were cold by the time the rice arrived but they were busy, I guess?. We also had to ask for cutlery as none of us had any when our mains arrived.

Ordering drinks was a challenge due to getting the attention of the staff and I ended up ordering multiple drinks so it would last the meal. It seemed they didn’t want us to spend much money, they could have made a lot more money from our table if they had more staff working.

Overall experience was just disappointing and I would hate it if this was the last time I dine here, but I will try other restaurants and then perhaps return and give it one more try in a year or 2? Gotta live in hope!

Note to the owner, put more service staff on, prioritise service so customers can spend more money and your prices are on the lower end in my opinion. I would have paid double for my meal if it was up to the standard of years past. If your chef is running low on beef vindaloo, then just say you are ‘sold out’ and I would have ordered a different dish rather than having a mix of beef that was obviously just cooked and added to the mix. The dish deserves this!

Overall, 3 stars but this is a stretch! This review is based on my experience and not influenced by any other...

Given the stellar reviews, I was excited to order takeout from Tandoor & Curry House as my first foray into Hobart’s Indian restaurants. We ordered the samosa, Makhan Chicken (very reminiscent of a butter chicken) and Rogan Josh with garlic naan. It was all fairly priced and a decent serving size, and the meat was tender and without excess fat.

When I ordered, we were told a 30min wait before pickup - and I always get there early so the food’s piping hot!.... except it wasn’t. I was surprised to be handed lukewarm (at best) curries given the empty restaurant, and would love this to be rectified as being handed cold food straight from the kitchen makes me question the freshness. Plus, much of the food is ruined in the microwave - the samosas lost all crispiness once I nuked them back to temperature.

The curries are fair portions and good value (and I love the complimentary rice!) - I would say 1 curry per rather hungry person, or for two people with a lighter appetite. I found them to be very, very mild given the ‘hot’ rating for both - and somewhat lacking a wow factor. I like my curries with a punch of spice and strong flavour - and would suggest branching out on the menu if you like the same (I think I’d try a vindaloo or some seafood curries next time, in case I chose the more general options). Excellent naan, though!

I didn’t dine in, but would say that the interior is lovely and that the food would probably be delicious served hot from the kitchen - much more so than cold in a bag.

I’ll probably shop around to find another Indian place for takeout, but Tandoor & Curry House was still pretty good. I just wouldn’t get the Makhan Chicken / Rogan Josh again - something...
