The standard have obviously considered the three basic needs of humanity and have thus now provided shelter to customers. Combined with food, and oreo thickshakes, you would think that is everything required for a human to survive.
This is now wrong. I'll tell you why.
The standard has now introduced a new basic human requirement. that's right, they have basically re-written the laws of human survival. What is it that they insist every person need sin order to continue on in this existence? An obscene, gut wrenching, squealing door. This door is so amazing it deserves a review of its own. The first thing you will notice about the door is the sound. After that you will not notice anything for a matter of minutes as you are clutching your ears with this stupefied grin on your face turning to your friends and mouthing 'Did you hear that?' Your friends will nod back and say something but it is obliterated by the ringing echo that is bouncing around your inner skull. You loudly exclaim your own agreement to whatever they must have said. They laugh at your witty reply and slap their thighs. You chortle at that and decide to pull your hands form your ears so that you may touch the delicate wooden tables. Bad idea young one, because now another customer has managed to pry the door open, allowing a fresh icy gust of wind to whip around, blowing up serviettes (if they were given out) and steal the spirit of the stunned customers. That's right, you just got another unfiltered listen to the rapture of the keening door. The live music scene in Hobart has being suffering, but if you're hunting for somewhere to gain some permanent hearing loss - The Standard is the place. You will probably find yourself, after this, asking your friends if there was a man trapped in the roller mechanism who was screaming for help. I know we did.

This is not a gluten free burger friendly place! Be aware of their false advertising! My partner is celiac and used to go often to the standard when they used to be across from the hospital. They had heaps of gluten free burger options but not anymore. They advertise on their menu board « we can make most of our burger gluten free ». Well don’t get foul by that. My partner asked for a GF chicken burger but told her they can’t make any of them GF... Disappointed, she then asked for the vegan burger (which is advertised GF burger on the board) but it turns out this burger isn’t gluten free either (the patty has gluten in it), only the bun is apparently?! What’s the point of advertising a burger as gluten free but then turns out it isn’t? Do they realise the consequences of what it can do to someone celiac? What a terrible and horrible thing to do. The waitress serving us was nice and felt embarrassed about the whole thing, she had to ask to few thing at the people in the kitchen who didn’t really care at all. The only burger they could make gluten free was a beef one... Oh and they charge $4 extra to have a gluten free bun. $4 for a tiny GF bun!!! What a joke. All other places charge only $2 max. My partner got out of the standard fuming and went down to the other burger place down the road which had heaps of gluten free option and their burger are bigger as well. I still stayed and got my burger at the standard as I remembered how good they were but got disappointed by the tiny size of it even though it was tasty. We will not go back there for sure, there are much better places...

I’m sorry I’m not usually very critical about places but I had one of the worst experiences recently not just once but twice! The first time we didn’t even get the chance to try the food because the person serving was so rude saying we couldn’t dine in because they closed soon when there was still an hour and 15 minutes left, after we said we might go elsewhere because we where looking for a place to eat in at because it was a cold winters night the guy rolled his eyes at another staff member! Only a few weeks later we tried a second time as we wanted to give them another chance because we thought we might have just caught them on a bad day because I understand everyone has days like that, but no once again they still made a deal that they close in “an hour and a half” so we have to eat quickly! Not very inviting! The eating area upstairs looked really good and cool but it was super cold and dirty and the food was not worth waiting for either! Sad and bland :(
As much as I really wanted to give the standard a good review and a second chance they just didn’t do it for me and I really can’t recommend this place! Hopefully sometime in the future I’ll give them a 3rd chance and it will be a much more enjoyable experience and I’ll rewrite this review to a 5 stars but for where it is at the minute it’s sadly a 1/5...
