Farmhouse Providore & Cafe — Restaurant in Horsham

Food and coffee is actually pretty good, but our experience was soured.

We've lived in Horsham for a month now while my husband's on placement as a doctor. We visited this cafe before covid lockdown 4.0 and decided to go again for takeaway when lockdown for regional Vic was lifted. A worker who had previously served us on another occasion said to my husband, 'we don't really serve Melbournians' (I'm assuming because of lockdown. If not, I'm confused about whether this place serves travellers or Melbournians at all lol). They didn't ask about why we were in Horsham or for ID, so that was an extremely loaded and rude assertion to make.

Dropped in after scouring reviews for the best coffee options in Horsham. Craving good coffee, I was optimistic for a good brew. Perhaps it was that it was 15 minutes before closing time and everyone’s minds were on shutting the doors, but still when you have 2 coffee machines and expensive coffee beans, I’d expect to see some reasonable effort made to make a decent coffee, particularly when you’re so highly lauded for it.Unfortunately we got warm, barely coffee-flavoured milk from a staffer who was clearly annoyed at the disruption to her cleaning. Had saved this a “my place to try” when we had to go to Horsham for the day. Being a Friday, at 2.10pm, I was a bit surprised that the kitchen was closed. As we had been on the road since 7am I didn’t have the wherewithal to find another place to have a very late lunch. So my husband & I agreed to share the Tandoori Chicken Roti from the refrigerator cabinet. It was “ok”. However there was no side salad, so it looked a bit lonely on the plate.
