The day was filled with fun & laughters - I have never seen them so happy running around, chasing each other without feeling tired but the parents were already down to their last remaining energy. Even the youngest one who normally had afternoon nap was still up and running. When we finally reached our hotel room, I had to settle their hungry tummies. Lucky for us, there was a pizza place inside the hotel itself so one large pizza and they were full.
Both of us, however, have something else in mind. After everyone had shower, we walked to Hotel Pension Grimus which was literally next door - our destination? Kaptans Restaurant which is renowned for its traditional European alpine ambience and excellent cuisine. ◾Lamb belly, quark, black garlic, chimmi churri. I'm not exactly a fan of lamb belly but boy this was something else.. melt in the mouth and full of flavour. ◾Kassler, fried sprouts, braised cabbage and baked apple - to the uninitiated, Kassler is a German name given to a cured and slightly smoked cut of pork (similar to gammon). Suffice to say that I enjoyed each and every cut that I put into my mouth.
Nothing like a glass of the highly rated Philip Shaw's Architect Chardonnay would not help to lift the dining experience. I ordered a side of salad and a dessert for the kids to munch on while we enjoyed the slow yet satisfying dinner. We were actually exhausted but nothing beats a...
Read moreWe had dinner at Kaptans restaurant recently on the 6th of Sep and our night was ruined because service took too long. Our booking was at 6pm but by the time we had finish dinner it was almost 9pm. It took almost three hours for a two course meal and it was a Tuesday night not even the weekend.
When we spoke to the manager about the delay especially the desert she said that they only have limited ovens and they can only place new order once previous orders are cooked.
So while we were waiting for our desert we saw another guest table receive their deserts before ours. I thought the protocol for restaurant is to serve customers on the basis of first come first serve. The mangers explanation did not justify the delay since we were the first customers to arrive at the restaurant.
What was mean to be an enjoyable evening turned out to be a big disappointed with one agitated child.
I would not recommend this restaurant to others, the food was average and the time for food to be served took...
Read moreWhat a surprise find! I loved the place as soon as I walked in. The interior decor and design was amazing. Amazing details in woodcarvings around the fireplace. You can definitely tell that the owner of this restaurant has put a lot of thought into the place.
Initially I was a bit annoyed at their “rule” where everyone must order minimum of 2 dishes. However, when the food came, I was glad I ordered 2 dishes! It was a warm hearty meal perfect in snowy weather; I felt like I wanted more even when I was already full!
I’d say, the only downside for this restaurant is the fact that it is 3 hours drive away from Melbourne CBD….so it will be hard for me to visit often..
I will definitely go again on my next ski trip...
