Booked a package with Buller Bus. I found the booking system, calling for information and the whole package deal very easy to organize. The coach driver was efficient and it was easy to find the coach at Southern Cross station. The drive up to Mount Buller was very pleasant. Going to the rental hire place was very quick and easy having pre-booked my clothing and skis making the whole process very streamlined. The staff were very helpful but very busy so I needed to wait a little while to get some help with putting on my ski boots and taking off my gear after my ski lessons. They have lockers available so you can go on the ski slopes relaxed knowing your gear is safe. It's a bit of a steep walk up to the slopes, especially for beginners but I got there in time for my lesson. Our ski instructor Christopher was excellent and very patient with the new beginners. He gave me a lot of confidence and I felt great that I persevered for the 2 hours trying the slightly bigger slope. It was a great experience for my first time on the snow and first time skiing. I had plenty of time after I took off the ski gear to explore the cafes, food outlets and gift store. Took lots of photos and video in the snow. Picked the perfect time to go this July because they had a heavy fluffy fall of snow days leading up to my visit. There was a blizzard that day but it didn't deter anyone from the snow activities. A lot of people had not been prepared with appropriate clothing and brought very young babies. Do your research before visiting a place with snow!! Mount Buller tours could put some hints and tips on websites for the snow tours explaining do's and don'ts and what to prepare for because honestly, some people are stupid. I did my research and bought a pair of ski goggles, ski gloves and sunscreen just in case and I'm glad I did. I had a nice some nice warm food and drink at the cafe and bought some gifts at the gift store. There is plenty of time to explore a ski village before heading back to Melbourne City. By that time I was definitely ready to get back on the bus in the warmth. I'd never experienced minus 4° before 😂. But overall it was a wonderful day out and for the money I paid for the package I thought it was well worth all the experiences I had, the time we were given at Mount Buller Central, All the ski hire equipment and the 2-hour lesson. Thank you for...
Read moreWhile there were enjoyable moments, I encountered a few concerns that I believe need to be addressed for a better visitor experience.
Ticketing Staff: The ticketing staff left me a bit disappointed. When I picked up Ski School tickets for my kids, I asked them about the assembly point, but they seemed clueless and couldn't provide the necessary information. It would be great if the staff were better informed and able to assist visitors with such queries.
Car Park Staff: I had a not-so-pleasant encounter with the car park staff. They were a bit rude and didn't let us choose our preferred car park. It's a shame that they weren't more flexible and approachable. I understand there were many cars getting in, but they didn't need to be rude.
Slope Conditions and Safety: The Howqua slope was a big letdown. It was icy, bumpy, and seemed like it hadn't been groomed properly. Many people were struggling and falling on their way to the Howqua chair. Unfortunately, my wife had a collision with someone, resulting in cuts on her hands. It was quite upsetting and could have been avoided if the slope had been closed or better maintained. To make matters worse, when we approached the ski patrol station, they seemed overwhelmed and too busy to provide proper care. They merely handed us a couple of bandages without even offering to help clean the cuts. It was disheartening and left us feeling neglected during a moment of distress.
Ski Lift Queue Management: Another issue we encountered was the lack of staff to manage the queues for the ski lifts. The queues were often congested with an excessive number of people. It was disheartening to witness instances of queue jumping and abuse of the single/ski school queues. A more robust staff presence, coupled with clear guidelines and enforcement, would greatly improve the flow and fairness of the queue system.
Overall, while there were some enjoyable aspects of the time at Mt Buller Ski Resort, these concerns did impact our overall experience. I hope that the resort management takes these feedback points seriously and considers implementing improvements in staff training, customer service, slope maintenance, ski patrol responsiveness, and ski lift...
Read moreMount Buller July 15 2024 Came to the mountain to see the beautiful scenery advertised online only to find it’s a $65 entry fee just to pass the gates! No concession! Got to the car park then had to catch a free shuttle bus to the village which offered nothing more than rude and entitled staff and grossly overpriced clothing and souvenirs. One jumper I looked at which looked like a Kmart knock off was priced at $556 dollars!!! Ski boots which we bought for $79 from anaconda were priced at $130! You people are MAD! A simple locker hire cost us $25 dollars. We went to the summit on another shuttle bus because we were advised by someone at the ticketing desk that one chair lift was only for people skiing and the other was $46 per person return! WHAT!!!???? We got up to the summit only to find an over priced “restaurant” with a menu you’ve got to use Google to search its dishes, the dish we could make sense of was a chicken parmigiana priced at $36! So we settled for a beer and a small glass of bourbon went to pay the bill to go home and were stung $30! For two drinks!!! What REALLY made our day was getting back onto the courtesy bus! Now THAT was exciting!
The coach we went on to take us down to the car park almost careened off the side of the road hitting the sign post on the opposite side (where the huge drop is!) turning hard left to avoid going over the hill then head on into an oncoming mini bus then rammed into 5 parked cars all parked in a row mowing them down like dominoes! WOW! My husband and I were the first two people up the very front standing in the over crowded bus! Got to our car and headed down the hill only to be stopped 3 more times due to one persons car having to be towed as they’d gone over the edge, and two others having fallen into the gutters on the side of the road! We will be asking for our entry fee back at...
