I had the eggs Benedict ordered without spinach and a long black coffee. The food came to table with heaps of spinach but I did not have time to wait for another serve so just removed it myself. I can never understand the flavour balance by putting raw spinach with eggs Benedict, where did this idea emerge from?? Anyway, the flavour had by this time infused and wilted its water into the bread. The eggs were hard and had water sacks which diluted the very small serve of hollandaise sauce of which I must say had a good flavour but in addition the bread became a soggy mess. The bacon had a good flavour and I didn’t mind too much the crunch, but on a eggs Benny maybe not so much crunch required. Coffee was good but could have been a little warmer, maybe because it was served into a cold cup?So much potential here but a lack of attention to detail and price paid gives it three stars from me. I will give it another go, hopefully reviews like this help improve around the edges. Good produce, good atmosphere, good flavours, lots of potential, just add the attention to detail and listen to what the customer is asking...
Read moreI'll start with the atmosphere. Think vintage library cafe in a garden. Such a unique environment. Not at all like all these modern cafes trying to out modern each other. 5 star atmosphere.
The ladies that work there are very kind and friendly. So in my opinion 5 stars for customer service.
I've eaten a lot of their food. The burgers are a divine combination of flavours. The muffins are always so dense and moist. Their cheesecakes have made my day. I don't like caramilk. But their caramilk cheesecake made me rethink that stance. I say 5 stars on the food.
Now the coffee. Those who follow my reviews know I'm quite the coffee snob. I get an iced coffee with vanilla from Rafter and Rose every time I'm in Ipswich. They calibrate their grinder multiple times a day. And their coffee pour times are consistent. The mild frothing is calm and barely heard. So I give 5 stars for the coffee.
My only complaint about Rafter and Rose is the clear lack of diversity in the employment. But I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the employees are all young white girls. But I can learn to live with only being served young...
