We were in town overnight and wandered out for food. We came across this place and the menu looked good. We all enjoyed our food and my wife especially like trying shark for the first time. You pay at the counter for both food and drink so it’s not one for a pampered night out. Plus the service was a little slow if I’m honest. But they were very busy. Overall I’d recommend - the food was delicious (I had the seafood linguine), a decent selection of wine tailored to the place it holds in the market, and very easy to walk to from the surrounding hotels.

Service and atmosphere were good. Expected for a bistro. We looked at the meals people were having and noticed all were plain and simple and nothing complex. Menu supported this. My meal was top end for cost. I did look forlornly at my reef sauce that looked like a Chinese fleet had plundered the area moments before. Luckily the remaining items of seafood were fresh. The steak was great but the chips were limp. My partner had problems with her meal of salt with calimari. Yeah, wish we had gone to maccas.

Look. the food was above average. my wife really loved the lamb ragu pasta. but did it elevate itself above any other small coastal town pub. not really. clearly caters for the holiday crowds. but in a night where it wasn’t jammed. lacked something. Nothing detrimental by any means. but not as top tier as other similar situated locales. as a pub very good. something in me suggests I would like it more in the depths of winter. just sitting back watching the footy….

A Classic Aussie Pub Experience with Great Seafood Options

I absolutely love the Australian pub atmosphere where everyone grabs their food and drinks and can gather with a large group to hang out. Lakes Entrance Central Bistro captures that relaxed, festive vibe perfectly, and it made for an enjoyable evening.

What stood out to me were the seafood options and the special menu. I opted for the seafood chowder. Being a fan of New England chowder, which I grew up with, I knew this would be different, but I was craving it. It turned out to be quite delicious, with a generous portion packed full of seafood. The accompanying garlic bread was exceptional and complemented the chowder beautifully. However, I did feel that the price was a bit high for a pub dish.

My partner had the chicken Parmesan, which came with fries. However, he decided to pay extra for an additional portion of fries, only to find that the extra fries were very small in size—disappointingly so, considering the additional cost. That was a bit of a letdown.

That said, our friends’ dishes looked great, and everyone seemed happy with their meals overall. The atmosphere was definitely a highlight. The space was lively and welcoming, with live music in another room adding to the festive vibe.

Overall, Lakes Entrance Central Bistro offers good food and a great atmosphere, especially for seafood lovers. While we wish the prices were a bit more reasonable, the experience was memorable, and we’d recommend it for a fun group outing or a classic...

Multiple visits to the Central Hotel Bistro in Lakes Entrance have always left me impressed.

The chowder is, without a doubt, the best dish on the menu—rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. Close behind are the seafood linguini and the brisket, each offering a unique and memorable taste experience. The seafood linguini is a bit spicy, bursting with flavor, and loaded with incredibly fresh seafood, while the brisket is tender meat that practically melts in your mouth.

For those who aren’t in the mood for seafood, the bistro also delivers standout options like the steaks, chicken spaghetti, and chicken parmigiana. The calamari is a solid choice as well, and the scallops—whether served as an entrée or as part of the seafood platter—are simply spectacular.

Next door to the bistro is a lovely bar with a beautiful atmosphere. The locals make you feel welcome from the moment you step in, adding to the overall relaxed and friendly vibe of the place.

It’s a must-visit if you’re in...

Just arrived after long drive as the weather closed in damp and cold. Was in need of a good hearty sit down meal somewhere warm welcoming and easy going. Had a look around at all the choices available and this came out tops. Staff are friendly, service was good, and food was spot on. Other places only had one or two dinners well the Bistro had half a dozen with all clearly happy with what they got. Grand Entrance Bistro is great place for a good honest quality meal with something for everyone. Perfect if you just got into town after a long drive and in need of a good feed.

Returned after few weeks and having tried other places. Yep this is by far the best! Food is great, welcome is friendly, just all round best place for a...
