After reading the menu on a walk past months ago I was excited to go to Kitsch, BUT, I found it very disappointing. We ordered spiced corn fritter w coriander syrup & green chilli jam v gf 18.0 togarashi squid w pickled daikon & ponzu dressing 19.0 and they were generous serves BUT the menu didnt say they were battered and deep fried. So I expected the corn fritters to be shallow fried I didnt expect little oval balls that were 70% batter (deep fried) with a little corn filling in the middle. And I expected the togarashi squid to be a lovely marinated fresh squid salad, there was not mention at all of it being deep fried and no evidence of Ponzu at all, just Bonito flakes so I was not happy. We also ordered grilled broccolini w indonesian sambal & crispy shallots v gfa 17.5 and whilst I think the broccolino was nicely steamed and very tasty the sambal was oozing oil, but very tasty. Next was the steamed snapper w mixed greens, lemon & red curry sauce gf 32.0. I expected a lovely whole steamed fish but 2 fillets of fish (very doubtful it was snapper) came in a steamer basket on a bed of bok choy (only one asian green). The fish may have been marinated or pre-prepared on lemon slices and this may have partly cooked it then it was steamed and very overcooked resulting in hard "little bits of rubber". The sauce was served seperately (good) and was very tasty but no heat at all. Lastly the crunchy asian slaw w spiced peanut dressing v gf 11.5 was tasty but very unhealthy too with a creamy (no evidence of peanuts) dressing, we had both expected something light and zingy I was disappointed. On a positive note the floor team were all very accommodating and when the rice (error) came out quickly swapped it for the roti bread v 4.0 as ordered. My expectation would have been a nice dry crunchy roti but it was the "buttered" variety. With the trend towards healthier choices I would strongly suggest that Kitsch improves its menu descriptions and if they want people like us to come back increase the healthier options on the menu. Serves were generous in size and staff and ambience great, if a little cold in spots on a wintery...
Read moreKitsch has been one of my favourite restaurants in Perth for a long time. I’ve been there for lunch, dinner, bottomless brunches, birthdays, brought travelling guests there and have raved to anyone that asks about the food and how cool the vibe is. Yesterday sadly was not the same experience. I’m not sure if it has changed ownership or staff but unfortunately our experience was sub par. We saw the duck and dumpling advertised on socials and booked in. We arrived on time for a 1pm sitting and were taken to our seats, from there it went downhill. The dumplings came out quickly, firstly they were tiny and while tasty, they came out dry and cold like they had been sitting there for some time. The course was meant to be paired with a cocktail, that came out 10 minutes after we had finished the dumplings. The price of $75, which we had paid up front, was to include free flowing wine, beer and champagne and 30 minutes in I had to ask if I could have a wine because the 2 waitstaff hadn’t been back to our table since dropping off the cocktail. Next came the main event, the duck. It was stone cold. The veggies were cold and the duck had been sitting there so long that the once delicious crispy duck skin was now chewy. The only thing that came out hot was the rice. Again the cocktail that was meant to be paired came out 10 minutes after the food. And then lastly the dessert, which was a custard bun. It did come out hot, but the custard in the bun hadn’t been cooked out properly and was grainy. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. My once fave go to has gone down hill and it would take some real convincing to get...
Read moreBeen once before and really enjoyed it, so when we booked to give the Wednesday night special a go we were very excited. The service initially was good, orders taken and drinks out quickly. Didn’t get the spicy ginger beer as requested, just the normal ones, but usually not one to complain. The entree of the corn fritters were tasty. But it went all down hill from there... When the table next to us were seated (obv either staff member or just happened to be friends with all the workers there) we were pretty much forgotten. Empty entree plates just sat there. Finally mains came out with dirty plates still on the table and asked for a drink menu to order more drinks which we got, but then no one came back to actually take our order, instead staff frequented the table next to us and we were invisible. The chilli beef wok special had absolutely no chilli and was very mediocre. We had clearly finished our meals and sat there longer but were still ignored. Finally someone came over to top up water but we were already so disappointed with everything that we decided to leave.
I am not one to make a complaint and having worked in hospitality before I usually have complete understanding, but the poor service and disappointing food was unacceptable. With so many amazing places in Leederville like Low Key and Ria Malay, I cant say we will be returning to kitsch...
