We were visiting Ballina and decided to head over to Lennox Head for lunch, drawn in by the charm of the town and the stunning views. The Lennox Hotel seemed like the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal—but unfortunately, the experience fell well short of expectations.
From the moment we arrived, we felt unwelcome. A staff member initially told us there were no tables available, only to then point us toward a few out the back. That interaction set the tone for the rest of our visit.
We waited over an hour for our meals, with no communication at the time of ordering that there would be such a delay. Had we known, we may have chosen differently. When I politely asked after an hour about the status of our meals, the response from the same staff member was short and unfriendly. Our food was eventually brought out with no courtesy — just slammed down on the table — and we were made to feel as though our questions were an inconvenience.
To add to the frustration, we had specifically asked for sweet potato fries as a side (and were willing to pay extra for this) and were told this was no problem. When the meals arrived, they came with regular fries. When we queried it, we were told sweet potato fries weren’t actually available to swap. Had we been informed at the time of ordering, we would’ve ordered differently.
The overall attitude from one particular staff member was disappointing—dismissive and rude. We understand that hospitality can be fast-paced and demanding, and they did appear short-staffed, but that’s not the fault of paying customers. Put more staff on so they don’t feel overworked. It’s a shame to have an experience like this in such a beautiful location, especially when we were looking forward to supporting local businesses in a...
Read moreWe attended this evening for dinner, after a very long day of driving with a toddler in tow. The service by the single waitress was prompt and friendly, she interacted with our little boy, which he loved too. 10/10 service. Atmosphere was exactly what you'd expect of a beach side gastro pub. The menu looked really good, so we decided to try two chicken dishes and the kipfler crush potatoes. Unfortunately, they were all very disappointing. The kipfler potatoes weren't even slightly crushed or crispy, and massively lacking in salt. We had the chicken wings with honey, gochujang and buttermilk dressing. The wings were dry, lacking in any real sauce and had no heat or sweetness, which is what you'd expect from gochujang. Seemed like they had been overcooked to begin with and then flash fried or oven heated for serving. We also ordered the Portuguese marinated half chicken, which was supposed to be served with green olives, grilled zucchini, whipped tahini, preserved lemon farro. The chicken didn't really taste like anything other than charcoal, which was disappointing, though it wasn't as dry as the wings. The zucchini was literally half a zucchini that had been thrown on the grill for maybe 5 minutes and was still crunchy most of the way through. There was a lovely chimichurri alongside the dish which was surprising, since it hadn't been listed. But overall, the best meal we purchased was my toddler's margherita pizza.
I'd suggest sticking to classic pub grub here, if you bother going at all. Seems like there are plenty of other establishments around there are similarly priced and have much...
Read moreVisited a couple of weeks ago with the intention of watching the NRL game...the front door was locked so we were instructed to go to the back door. We stood for a while waiting at the back door with other customers before a young guy came to unlock the back door and tell us we were to wait a few minutes until there was room for us in the pub. We were happy enough to do this as there are social distancing restrictions in place everywhere at the moment. When we were then allowed inside, we were told to find a table to stand by or 'pair up' with another group, so it would look as if we were part of the group. This set off alarm bells for us as it was obviously disregarding any social distancing restrictions. We feel there should have been someone there to keep on top of numbers in the bar and ensure everyone was signing in/using the hand sanitiser upon arrival, as this is the proceedure in every other bar/pub at the moment. The bar was obviously understaffed for a Friday evening so apart from the annoyance of waiting a long time for drinks at the bar, we left after 1 drink and watched the rest of the game at home as we were uncomforatabls with the lack of care for...
