As a mandoo (Korean dumpling) fanatic, was really excited and had high hopes when visiting the newly opened venue.
The venue markets itself to be “Brisbane’s only one authentic Korean Dumplings and noodle” would agree to some extent and also disagree.
Ordered the kimchi pork dumpling, pork dumpling, and spicy mixed noodle.
For both the dumplings; use of fresh ingredients with as much natural based herbs/sauces was apparent. The kimchi dumpling had just the right about of spice to it, although some might find it a bit too spicy. For me it was the perfect spice level. The overall fillings content is much less than what the whole dumpling looks as. Seems like the dumpling skin is also made onsite, would have been better with a more chewy based texture of the skin. The overall filings is dry and would have been uplifted with a slight more juice. (I’m assuming that the pork mince juice was drained out too much).
The spicy mixed noodle has a lot of work to be done. Great use and mix of ingredients but the sauce needs to blend better with the overall mixture. The sauce base itself is not too bad but once mixed has a light composer and doesn’t pull the whole dish together to enable the full flavours at each bite. Maybe less soup and more sauce could have helped.
Besides the main dishes, pretty much everything else is self-service. Free refills of kimchi, chive kimchi and radish pickles. Soy sauce and wasabi sauce is also available. Purchases available with fresh chilli soy sauce, and garlic sprouts soy sauce. You can also help yourselves to free rice, but the dumplings itself are quite filling.
Over time I believe the overall taste of dishes will develop. At this stage it’s not a venue that I would crave to come back anytime soon, but may do in the future some time.
Would rate an overall 3/5 but went with 4/5 in the hopes that in future it will be...
Read moreI ordered the hand torn noodles, and I was so shocked by the portion that I had to stir it around just to check. If this is how you’re going to run the business, you might as well change the name of the restaurant. You’re disgracing the previous owners and everything they built. You’ve increased the price, drastically cut the portion size, and completely dropped the quality. Who would ever want to come back after that? If you’ve taken over the business and are still selling the same menu, then even if you raise the prices, the least you could do is try to maintain the taste and quality. Isn’t that basic? If a staff member made the food, then the owner is at fault for not checking it properly. But if the owner made it themselves, that’s the biggest problem of all. Is this really what $19 is supposed to get me? Anyone who’s ever made hand torn noodles at home or had them from this place before would know exactly what I’m talking about is that this was the worst version I’ve ever had. Was this your first time making hand torn noodles? They were so dry and thick. Honestly, it looked and tasted like bits of unfinished dumpling dough just tossed into the soup. It was way too thick and absolutely didn’t have the texture it’s supposed to have. If you can’t make it properly, then just buy the ready made ones from suppliers. Honestly, they would be...
Read moreIf you are looking for authentic Korean soup, side dishes, noodle dishes, you found right place and you DO NOT have time to hesitate. Just GO. It's very tasty, and nutritious.
I only minused 2 star from Service category From Western people's perspective, it can be seen as not very welcoming(if they are expecting western standard of customer service) Also, it requires some attention if you have some seeds allergy since they use a lot of sesame seeds. (Which is what makes the dish tasty and nutritious due to plenty of polyunsaturated fat and other nutrients)
For further information regarding if they can make it without certain ingredients you should inquire to them(i never thought to ask cuz i don't have...
