I read all the bad reviews for this place and to be honest wasn't expecting much but had to give it a go cause I do love a good buffet.
Overall: The place was good! Would be 4 to 4.5 stars in my opinion considering all aspects buffet. A lot of the bad reviews were from the initial opening which is expected for any new place going through teething issues. The recent bad reviews I think were probably were from unrealistic expectations of a buffet at this price point. Put it this way, there were a lot of happy looking customers in the restaurant when we went who probably won't leave a review. I would say Okami is definitely one of my favourite buffets due to the variety and relative price point. Taking into account all aspects, I'd rate this better than a place like shabu house.
Service: We went at around 7pm on a Thursday night and the place was half to 3/4 full and service was great and attentive. Food came out quickly and everytime we flipped the sign the waitresses came within a few minutes. I did notice as the place got busier the more complex food to cook started to come out slower but that would be expected. They did forget 1 last dish but to be honest I'm glad they did as I was way too full.
Food: Up and down, but more good than bad. Sushi quality is decent. You can't expect the quality of sushi only restaurants, but for buffet quality sushi at a place with variety then it is pretty decent. No problems with the sashimi or wasabi either. The fried foods were average as it did taste a bit cheap, but that didn't stop me from eating bulk. The beef, chicken, seafood and salad speciality dishes were all good. Desserts were decent. We also had the lychee mojito which was quite nice. Favourites would have to be the beef pieces, beef carpaccio, sushi / sashimi, grilled squid and fish dessert.
Atmosphere: Nice interior decor, lighting and music. Ordering system was easy and lots of room for seating. No issues with the atmosphere. Also easy to get to and park.
Price: I generally rate price point for buffets like this (not locked into 1 food type e.g. wings) against the variety of food and quality. I would say this is properly priced and I would have no issues coming back and paying this price. Variety was great and quality was overall decent for a buffet.
Comparison: At this price point I'd say it's not as good as REN Yakiniku in Sunnybank but better than Shabu house in the city.
Recommendation for owner: Increasing the quality of the fried foods would be a game changer. For example, the karaage didn't have the standard batter on it that most other places have and made it seem cheap. Same as the katsu...
Read moreOur first order of 3 items came within 10 minutes of ordering. When this food arrived we made another order and waited patiently for 30mins before requesting an update. We were advised that our order didnât reach the kitchen due to some kind of error and were advised to keep ordering (had to make multiple orders to see if any reached the kitchen). After waiting again for a long period of time we had to ask multiple times to check on status of orders. Waitress was polite, however communication was hit and miss and it took 5-10 minutes to get the attention of a waitress each time we needed assistance in checking on our order to see if theyâd gone through. Just before our 1.5hr session for the âall you can eatâ all of a sudden a few of the dishes started coming out (we believe the waitress had to manually push some through as we had made 4 orders that didnât go through as she could see we were starting to get a bit annoyed). We had to scoff down this food quickly as we were hungry but not at all happy with the waiting times and the issue with our orders not reaching the kitchen. I saw multiple other people approach waitresses to complain of the same issue, with one family leaving after receiving no food at all after being there for atleast 1hr. We realise that these things can happen from time to time, but better communication is needed with customers and another solution put in place (paper/manual order if app is having an error, would also be nice to see in the app which orders are sitting with the kitchen, then we would have been able to see that none of our orders except for the first one was being received and not sat waiting for orders that werenât coming. Food was great, however value for money (due to waiting time and our orders not going through) and service needs improvement. We left disappointed and wonât be coming back as we spent majority of the 1.5hrs waiting for food that wasnât even coming and donât feel like the $85 for the 2 of us was worth the limited quantity of food that...
Read moreAs with any all-you-can-eat restaurant, the selling point is cheap, and quantity over quality, and that's what I prepared myself. I was not expecting authentic or the freshest sushi; I only wanted to have a lot of it because otherwise, why would one go to an all-you-can-eat restaurant?
I ordered the sushi & sashimi platter as it comes in bigger portions, so I only had to order a few times during a hectic period. The first time around, I received the "nigiri set", which was only half the size. I pointed at the sushi & sashimi platter picture on the menu for the second round of ordering- still, I received the nigiri platter. The third time I asked the waiter whether that was an actual menu item, he checked my previous orders and confirmed my previous orders were indeed put in as a sushi & sashimi platter but received a nigiri set for whatever reason. He apologised and put in the order again. However, I STILL received a Nigiri set. 3 times in a row with different staff members seemed too coincidental to be a glitch in the system. I saw the sushi & sashimi platters being served on both tables next to ours, which was annoying.
The nigiri set advertises 3 sashimi nigiri, plus prawn, inari and egg sushi. The set, in reality, only had 1 sashimi nigiri and had 2 rolled sushi instead that had fried chicken & tuna filling. Understand the menu picture is just for reference. Still, by changing our order to a nigiri set with less sashimi and then to have significantly less amount of sashimi for the nigiri set. It is a cheeky tactic and disappointing, as one would think that if you open an AYCE restaurant, you will ensure that what's advertised is available.
Also, please do not place any docket/receipt on top of the sushi when serving to customer - that is...
