Alleyway Kitchen in South Yarra is a an absolute find!
We had tried their sister company Fortune Alley and this one did not disappoint again! They bring vibrant flavours of authentic Chinese cuisine to Melbourne. With its expansion across multiple locations in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, they are rapidly becoming a go-to destination for any Asian food enthusiasts.
The hallmark of Alleyway Kitchen is its commitment to price, quality and authenticity. From the Bento Large Box, super affordable!, offering a satisfying combination of 1 side and 3 dishes, to the Steamed Dumplings with Chicken and Shrimp, and the flavourful Prawn Dumplings - all things we tired here - each one reflects the brand's dedication to delivering distinctive, high-quality cuisine. We also love how we can combine and mix/match different foods items!
Founder William Kuo's dream to create a food culture that is fashionable, affordable and delicious shines through in every dish served at Alleyway Kitchen. Their menu features a blend of traditional Chinese favourites and innovative creations, all made with high-quality ingredients and presented with flair. We loved everything we tried here. They didn't have the names displayed on the meals, but the staff was lovely and they were super helpful telling us what was what and also any allergens in the meals.
I feel like someone that visits this place can expect something new and exciting with each visit. And they will never get bored! It's a testament to their dedication to providing an exceptional dining experience that keeps customers coming back for more.
For those craving a taste of authentic Chinese cuisine in a stylish and welcoming setting, Alleyway Kitchen is undoubtedly a must-visit destination. With its bold flavours, inventive dishes, and commitment to excellence, it's no wonder they're on the path to becoming the largest Chinese food franchise in Australia 🥢🥟

I’m here in 2024 reconfirming this review as the Hokkien Fried Noodle is still very well made, see my original review in 2023 below!😇
I’ve tried:
The Hokkien Fried Noodle - possibly the best Hokkien fried noodle I’ve had anywhere in Victoria, although at $17.80, the portion was very big and the ingredients used were fresh and very generous. There was great value in this one and I highly recommend this!!
The 3 dish + rice (I believe at $14.80) - they were very generous with the portion sizes and I almost couldn’t finish the 3 dishes by myself! There was again good value and for those who are down to try numerous Asian dishes, definitely have a try at this affordable price!
The service is also very good, but do note that stir fry dishes such as the Hokkien Fried Noodles is made to order and might take around 10-15 minutes to make - so plan your visit in advance, especially if you are going at lunchtime!
I will be returning for the Hokkien Fried Noodles next time I’m in the area! Good work...
Read moreFantastic experience. I ordered a dine-in meal tonight, and was extremely impressed with the staff on how they handled a minor error on their part. I left my table to grab refill of water. My meal was almost finished, so it appeared that I'd left. A staff member began clearing my table and, when I arrived back, I let her know that I was still eating. She apologised profusely and immediately offered to compensate me with a fresh serving of replacement food. I really wasn't expecting the team to be so generous, but they supplied me with a whole regular-size meal of rice and mixed chicken to cover the much smaller portion of my original meal they'd cleared away! EXCELLENT SERVICE AND INITIATIVE! This being the level of service on my first ever visit, I will certainly be returning when the hunger pangs are summoning a filling...
