WOW. This is the most pretentious, racist, discriminatory club I’ve ever experienced and would NEVER recommend to anyone. Born and bred in Australia and never have I experienced such discrimination. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from security/club management. Strong racial undertones and discriminatory practices and attitudes towards non-white individuals by security at the door. Group of four (mixed race friends), paid $40 each for a ticket for NYE, to only be refused entry at the door just before bringing in the new year. We were told by security that we were “underdressed”. Note females and men wearing neat attire as advertised on the alumbra website. Women dressed in neat dresses and the men wearing shirts and black pants.
We also observed other people (predominantly Caucasian) seen in neat casual attire, being accepted to enter the club.. When questioned why entry has been refused for us only, we were finally provided with the truth, by a polite young man working for the club, who had told us that we were simply refused entry due to my partners HAIR?! For context, partner is part Caribbean/Australian and has dreadlocks). Maybe, consider advertising on your event no dreadlocks allowed?
To think racism is still so prevalent and apparent in a country like Australia and experienced at Alumbra night club, is both shocking and disgusting. We grew up going to alumbra nightclub (at the old venue) and I can say this new Alumbra is nothing like the back in the day Alumbra. This crowd appears to be predominantly “white” and those dressed trashy or in skimpy clothing are allowed in . It is not an inclusive club and management are clearly trying to go for a certain “look”… that pretentious type of vibe, which is giving the club a bad reputation.
This club is classless. Would NOT recommend to anyone… never ever again. Finished the night off at another event/club and no issues...
Read moreI have always enjoyed coming to Alumbra, and it has been one of my favourite places to spend time with friends. In particular, the night of 26 July stands out as one of the best experiences I have had the atmosphere and music were exceptional.
However, I wanted to share some honest feedback about my visit last night, as it was unfortunately disappointing in comparison. The music felt below the usual standard, and a particular interaction with a member of the security team left me and my friends uncomfortable. (Security number 73)
When I greeted the security guard with a smile and respect, his response was unfriendly and unprofessional. He separated our group, leaving one of the girls on her own, which caused her significant anxiety. When she expressed her discomfort, the reply she received was not what you would expect in a welcoming and safe environment.
I completely understand the need for security to carry out their duties, but it is never appropriate to treat or manage any individual in a way that leaves them feeling unwelcome. It doesn’t hurt to be kind, and small acts of courtesy can go a long way in maintaining the friendly, vibrant atmosphere that makes Alumbra so special. I truly hope the vibe improves in the coming weeks so everyone can continue to enjoy the great experiences the venue...
Read moreWent here with 3 of my female and 2 male friends. We were waiting in line for 40 minutes and after showing them my id they accused me of being too drunk after I had only one shot of vodka and acting completely normal. At this stage all of my friends had been let it. Clearly targeting me for no apparent reason. These bouncers were entitled and arrogant. They were condescendingly telling me it’s only 15 minutes and after already waiting so long this was very frustrating. They clearly have no respect or care for anyone just trying to enjoy their night. They belittled me and I ended up leaving. $40 for entry is a joke when you can go anywhere else and have the same experience. Will never be coming here again. This happened at approximately 12:04am Saturday (Sunday morning) on the 11th of August. So whoever the 3 bouncers were on shift that night need a reality check and obviously need to learn how to tell if people are drunk as 2 girls who couldn’t even walk got in. Absolute joke to those so called “men” and should be ashamed...
