Bawa Cafe is a delightful culinary oasis nestled in the heart of Hawthorn. As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by a hip and modern ambiance, with plenty of natural light flooding the space, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for enjoying a leisurely breakfast. The menu is a celebration of comforting, hearty dishes crafted from fresh seasonal ingredients. I recently indulged in their Twice Cooked French Toast ($22.90), and it was an absolute delight. Each bite was a burst of flavor, with the sweetness of the berries perfectly complementing the crunch of the candied hazelnuts. It’s a dish I’ll be dreaming about for days to come. For something a bit more savory, we also tried the Sautéed Mixed Mushrooms with kale and goat’s cheese ($23.90), and it did not disappoint. The mushrooms were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of earthiness, and the addition of kale and goat’s cheese added a wonderful depth of flavor. It was a filling and satisfying dish that left me feeling nourished and content. Of course, no breakfast at Bawa Cafe would be complete without a cup of their expertly brewed Lavazza coffee. Smooth, strong, and perfectly balanced, it was the ideal accompaniment to our meal. Moreover, the experience was elevated by the amazing staff who provided warm and attentive service throughout our visit. Their friendly demeanor and genuine enthusiasm added an extra layer of enjoyment to the meal. Overall, Bawa Cafe offers a truly exceptional breakfast experience that’s sure to leave you craving more.

Brunch is now part of the fabric of Melbourne’s food culture. People truly enjoy the quality and variety of dishes on brunch menus across the city. So much, in fact, that brunch is now considered one of the most popular meals for people to enjoy “out”. We recently visited @bawa_cafe this bright and adorable, well lit cafe which is a must-go when you're in Hawthorn . Top dishes include their smoked hamhock terrine eggs benny with their delicious chai latte! They do everything from breakfast to lunch including some really refreshing salads, we surely want those to embrace our summer meals- be it their Scrumptious and filling smashed avo or the Spiced warm beef salad both are equally delicious! We love their freshly made super green salad, comes with a side of breaky favs - a mini version of sourdough n eggs. The star of the show is definitely their not so sweet french toast, it is sucha shop stopper to your brunch you would go home satisfied! A perfect blend of compote, icecream and fresh fruits along with it! Yes the Almond cap is 10 on 10 too, definitely coming again for the beautiful green decor and brilliant food!

I was told that this place came well regarded. I had mixed emotions. Everyone I know has raved and raved about Bawa. Plus with all the positive reviews, I thought, heck I would give it a try. The one thing I must commend them on is the way they present their coffee. When consuming a long black, it’s well known that you should enjoy a pre-drink aereated drink to cleanse the pallette for the oncoming goodness. And you know that you’re in good hands when that happens. I found the coffee to be delightful and the card that they served up with it showed off the best of the location. I ordered the pulled pork roll. Surprisingly, what I enjoyed most of the meal, is watching the person make it. The love, the passion and excitement that she brought to making the meal, made me not want to consume the oncoming work of art. Admittedly, I was taking photos of a meal that wasn’t mine. Alas. The high fives she was giving the other chef just brought a smile to my dial. The meal came well presented and I was definitely hungry by the time it arrived. The packed house didn’t deter the kitchen and they kept producing dish after dish in an almost robotic and fascinating seamless fashion. The chips were delectable, the hard crunch on the outside with the warm fluffy inside ensured every mouthful was devine. The pulled pork was soft and tender and just melt in your mouth. I did find the bread to be a little overbearing and not to be as fresh as the ingredients within. This did sully the meal a little but the sides, the sauce (my lawd that heavenly sauce) was absolutely worth it. I wouldn’t recommend the coffee at this location. However the food is good reason for you to come and visit.

My partner and I had a pleasant experience eating out here. I have to talk about their food first. The food was so delicious and tasted fresh, they have some vegetarian options which I think it's always nice to have varieties. The green salad I had was absolutely yummy! I think a staff forgot to bring me a dressing, but I asked for it soon and they brought it almost immediately. The poached eggs were perfection and my partner loved the hollandaise sauce. It is hard to find a place that serves great hollandaise sauce surprisingly, so that was a good find! Everything they served to other tables, looked all so amazing. I don't know what type of beans they use, but the coffee was very great as well. The service was pretty good, they weren't too chatty at all, almost no small talks, but that could've been because it was a busy lunch time with only a few floor staffs. I would love it and would've given 5 stars if there was a bit more of interactions, but they weren't rude or anything likd that at all. Overall, I'd go again and highly recommend this place to anybody who enjoys fine coffee shop with great food!

I love Bawa’s coffee, but my recent encounter with their Eggs Benedict left me questioning my choices - it was a huge disappointment. This is what I got at a hefty price of $24 - two poached eggs and a rather cold ham hock (maybe it’s supposed to be cold??) on a piece of tiny little square bread. The bread itself, is smaller and thinner than an ordinary Coles white slice (they did elevate the overall experience by removing its brown border, but..…). What confused me even more was the scarcity of garnish - left me wondering if minimalism was the intended theme. In a twist of irony, I couldn’t help but recall a neighboring cafe just 50 meters away from Bawa, where I paid $27 for an egg Benedict that redefined the meaning of the dish. Two fried pouched eggs, crispy kale, generous amount of honey-drizzled bacon on a butter-grilled pretzel. It was a masterpiece compared to the disappointment at Bawa. Bawa’s coffee may be a winner, but their egg Benedict t needs a serious upgrade.

✨ Brunching in the Sunlight ✨ A cafe where you can enjoy brunching in the warm morning/afternoon sun. Menu includes all your favourites and heartier meaty options. We had: 🍳 Shakshuka $24.90 🐖 Charsiu Pork Belly $24.90 ☕️ Chai Latte $5 ☕️ Latte $4.5 The pork belly was incredibly tender with a rich, natural flavor, complemented by a melt-in-your-mouth fat layer reminiscent of charsiu. The cauliflower purée offered nutty undertones with a smooth yet slightly grainy texture, enhanced by the crunch of puffed rice. It’s great to see this item back on the menu after disappearing from many cafes post-COVID lockdown. The shakshuka featured two perfectly poached eggs with runny yolks. The tomato base had a balanced flavor, not overly tangy, and included ample vegetable chunks. The pita bread was perfectly toasted. We loved the dishes and vibes here and would be keen to try their sweeter dishes.
