While the Inn itself can feel a little gloomy inside, the people, food, and excellent experienced service will brighten up your night. So lets break it down…
Atmosphere: * It’s okay but could be enhanced. There is a nice little outdoor area to soak up the sun and kick back with your mates while sinking a few – but in some respects the décor encourages a loose crowd. Nothing wrong with that, but adding some more potted greenery to lift the shine, may encourage a little more reserve. Inside was better but it was really dark which gave the interior a really gloomy feel about it with the low colours and wood trimming, with a little brighter globes the place will feel warmer and comfortable. Aside from the above, the place was well maintained, clean and lively.
Customer Service: * It was a Wednesday night and it was very busy (7:00PM rush). All staff were exceptional, from the greeting, to the bar staff to the service representatives. Everyone was organised, friendly and really trying to ensure all their customers were having a great time. Ordering was through a QR code but you could order at the counter if you like. We ordered entrees & mains and expected the food to be a little delayed. Entrees were out within 10 minutes and the mains 30 minutes after that, which is still pretty reasonable for packed house of 120+ patrons. All the mains were delivered hot and ready to eat, plus all at the same time. It was very courteous of the serving rep to ask if anything was missing, well done. Lastly, the table was cleared about 5-10 minutes after eating and we were asked after our meal. Excellent.
Food (Why we are here): ** Order: Cheesy Garlic Bread (entrée), Salt & Pepper Calamari (entrée), Chicken Parmigiana, Vegetarian Stir Fry with Chicken, Garlic Prawns (GF) & Pork Cutlet. Cheesy Garlic Bread – Must Try! Delicious! Salt & Pepper Calamari – Was good, not great – little over cooked. Chicken Parma – Very nice, good flavour, not overly crumbed, good size piece of chicken. Chips could have been better but the salad was great. Vegetarian Stir Fry with Chicken – Really good, the flavour wasn’t too overpowering and wasn’t too greasy either. Garlic Prawns (GF) – Must Try! A dish worthy of the name, The sauce was really well done and really brought out the prawns! Pork Cutlet – Must Try! The sweetness of the honey mustard sauce mixed with the proper flame charring of the Pork cutlet was outstanding, even the broccolini and sweet potato. It all mixed together brilliantly.
Overall: While the décor did let us down a little; the local vibe of patrons, the food and the excellent service is certainly a reason to get down here. If only for the garlic prawns or the pork chop dishes. ...
Read moreHaving enjoyed our many previous visits to the Berwick Inn, my wife and I decided to stop in for dinner this evening. Boy what a change ! The meal was incredibly disappointing and we will not be returning . My starter of tempura prawns, these have previously been lightly battered king prawns. Today they consisted of 6 deep fried flattened out prawns wrapped in a pastry / batter. ( the kind that are usually available in boxes the local supermarket freezer ) I ordered a crumbed fish , with chips and salad for my main meal . The fish was fried so much it was too dry to eat without covering it in tarter sauce and the chips were cold. My wife's chicken and prawn stir fry was covered in a satay sauce which tasted gritty as if it was created with powdered curry that had not been cooked enough and the noodles tasted undercooked....ALL OF THIS SERVED WITH A 10% SURCHARGE BECUSE IT WAS EASTER SATURDAY ! If the restaurant was packed out and busy , I could understand a mistake or two . But it was only half full and staff were not rushed off their feet.
We decided to part without dessert and as we were exiting the door, the head waiter called us back and seeing that much food was left , asked us how we liked the meal . We told him politely what we thought and to his credit he immediately asked us to return to our table and he would bring us a full refund. I did not expect this but was pleasantly surprised by the offer. Excellent customer service I thought. But alas no, he returned a few minutes later apologizing that the head chef had refused to give any refund because we did not complain when the meal first arrived. I did not seek a refund, did not ask for one, but once it was offered , I felt it was extremely poor form to refuse to follow through.
Sadly the Berwick Inn is no longer a place where we and our family will be dining...
Read morejust had lunch at the Berwick inn & left very disappointed with the service & the accessibility of only having one disable car park witch is very strange as Berwick is a old town. i ordered a steak sandwich & was able to only eat half & when leaving i have asked the staff if they had something for me to take it home & was told as we don't do take away we done have take away containers but you can have some napkins to take the food home?? . i then did state the we can c into the kitchen & there was a heap of containers that would find at Coles that cost $6 for 20-30 that i have at home but i was told by the manager that the kitchen has proper reusable ones & cant give you one of them as they don't do take away. so i didn't want to grab the food with a napkin and push my daughters wheelchair at the same time & didn't think its a good idea to carry my steak sandwich in the car dripping with juices was a good idea so i just left it on the plate so very disappointed in many aeras and the manager needs to go on a customer service course & should be able to come up with better excuses why a customer couldn't have a 10c container to take there food home this is the first restaurant that has ever said just take it home in a napkin. but one good thing they have spent hundreds & hundreds of thousands doing the place up & even installed 2 very expensive wheelchair lifts in & the out door aera looks great but (cant afford to help a customer with a 10c container i would have paid $2 dollars if need ) i hope they look into putting more disable car parks in or those lift will go to waste as only having one i think is...
