Berwick Palace Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Melbourne

First time eating in. Very fast booking and seating. Great customer service at the front. First thing that hits is the classic smell of a Chinese restaurant and a lot of old, sad looking people dining there.

You are then greeted by a bang of old, outdated Chinese style decorations. The wall paper is very cool, however there is water damage from the roof and peeling. The tables are very old and outdated. but do the job (same as chairs). The toilet have not changed since the 70's! They had cardboard on the floor too to soak up the leaking tap pipes. Was a nice view of the kitchen too and how dirty/chaotic it looked.

The food came out super fast! We ordered a starter of 'homemade' dim sim, which looked awful and tasted average. Our main dishes were from the sizzling section of the menu (which why the way, the menu is HUGE!) Food was actually very nice. Only downfall is the amount of oil and additives to it - we were in for a sore belly that night! Priced quite reasonable. Loved the little fortune cookie we got at the end and a wet wipe lol.

Would probably never come again, but it was quite a ...different experience. One of those places where you're kind of desperate for a hit of Chinese food and don't care...

Very poor customer service. Waitress was rude. Unable to provide a mixed banquet. She said it was not possible . I have a family of 7 we have different preferences for food. She said she was there to assist us quickly as they needed the table in 2 hrs. A mixed banquet was inconvenient for her to serve . When we made the reservation we were not told we had a time frame to eat. If we would have been seated in 3 different tables my family would have had the choice to select what they wanted bcs we would have had one waitress allocated per table. Basically the waitress was unable to handle the order. We couldnt enjoy the food as we became conscious of the time. We were celebrating my son's birthday. Sadly I spent money to have a very stressful time. It was not a pleasant experience at all. My message to the owner and the staff is make sure you treat the customers nicely we We are paying for the food and the service . It's about customer...

This place has really gone downhill. I used to order from this place 15-20 years ago & tonight my mother phoned our order ahead of time. I got there 20 minutes later and still had to wait another 20 minutes. Come to find out when I got home just how bad the food was. Firstly the size of the rice ordered was a large and it’s in a small round container (pictured) not to mention the special fried rice is not very special, it’s steamed rice with barely any vegetables or meat and hasn’t been fried at all. (Pictured) on top of this the lemon chicken I ordered didn’t come with any lemon sauce at all. It’s just dry fried chicken. So the only dish my family is sharing tonight is the beef and black bean dish as that’s the only edible thing here. What a waste of money and a waste of time.
