First time visit. Decor lovely and atmos ok. But 30 min olus wait for very average food despite not being busy. Waitresses are nice but looked frantic. Wonder how they'd go if it was any busier. We ordered avo on toast with poached eggs and something called a 'breakfast salad' advertised with roast sweet potato and beetroot. Sounded promising. After nearly complaining about the wait the food finally arrived. We were speechless. It looked like something you'd just make at home yourself. Egg cooker poached eggs, avo smashed until it's paste on 2 of the skinniest slices of toast you could imagine. 'Grain bread' was just coles muktigrain. For $18? Get real. It tasted as bland as it looked. The 'breakie salad' was a tiny bowl of rice, rocket, and grated carrot.. We thought they'd forgotten the potato but no that was grated in too.. zero dressing, just as bland. We ate as we were so hungry after the giant wait and didn't have the energy you complain. Your display cabinet showed a variety of nice looking home made pastas, pies, cakes etc. That's clearly what the locals come for. Stick to that as you're cleary a bakery cafe not a brunch cafe. You can't charge premium for brunch that is terribly average and takes...

We ask the waitress if there's nuts in her food, she says there shouldn't be but goes to check with the kitchen. The waitress returns and advises us that the toast has nuts (which was not mentioned on the menu or anywhere else despite labellings for dietary requirements on the menu, besides what reasonable person would assume that toast has nuts?).
To cut a long story short, we were blamed by the kitchen for not letting them know and were told that it is our fault, ignoring the possibility of KILLING someone with their incompetence.
TL:DR Not worth the trouble or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a consistently excellent cafe with great food and good service. Never stuffy, but oh so right. It is a neighbourhood stalwart and a hidden gem that locals quietly covet. The pies are awesome - old school pastry bottom with a flaky top filled with a fair dinkum mince stew and the pastries are particularly good - the Cronut and danishes are awesome if you are early enough to snafu one. There are the usual breakfast, brunch and lunch offerings (eggs, soup et al) along with rotating daily specials (try the meatball sub!) The coffee is also very good and did I mention that they have ready made...
