Staff are pleasant and accommodating.. and then is goes down hill from there.. have persisted in coming to this rsl due to family preference but no more .. I swapped my full price order with my partner and had the seniors Parma , it was soggy on the underside and had an odd taste but noted it was just a parma cut in half. The full serve was $26 a seniors $19. Shame on you RSL for the poor value you offer the seniors My partner tried the 1/2 Morton bay bug .. well I haven’t seen such a gross misrepresentation in a very long time .. what we got was a far cry from the image on the board …it was a dried up half bug with a piece of lettuce ..reason given by the manager was that it was a high cost item and it was only an add on to a main meal .. maybe but they charge $9 for the privilege.. no apology offered or even offer to compensate with a coffee . finally $36 for the grilled flathead tails on lobster bisque . Again consisted of dry tough fish in an over salted soup base.. Other reviews raise this very point .. extremely disappointing

Goshu Nihon Bijutsu豪州日本美術 (Token Hozon Kai) The Australian Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords Box Hill RSL is proud to present this exhibition of Japanese art swords, sword mounts, sword fittings and armour, showcasing the extraordinary artistry of Japanese craftsman and the refined aesthetic sensibility of the Samurai. Featuring items from the 14th to 19th century, they were symbols of status, providing the original owners with a platform for self-representation and personal expression. Art which transcends function, the motifs used span many different aspects of Japanese martial, spiritual, material and visual culture and reflect the fashions of the various periods in which they were created. We hope that by sharing these items we can foster an interest in Japanese art and history, ensuring that these items are cared for and appreciated for generations to come. I give 2 stars this time , location and environment is good as usual, the food we had here before was good too. But the food we ordered this time is really disappointing. We ordered lamb cutlet the first time here, priced at $45 but only 3 pieces was served and one of them was very small. moreover, the taste was bad we cannot even finish the 3 pieces because it taste so bad. I provided feedback , they said they can compensate with a cake or other side dishes, but we are not interested(they didn’t offer refund money option which they should , I didn’t request either ). Even the inflation is high these days, but this is only a standard hotel restaurant you need to line up to pay your meal upfront. $45 for 3 little terrible taste lamb cutlet is definitely a shame. We felt upset and have to find other food to eat afterwards.

The new Box Hill RSL where do I start, the rude waitress that rolled her eyes, as it was our fault, for the poor customer service, or the food that was absolutely appalling, taste less, and not to mention the wafer thin cardboard Parma that was obviously left under the grill and could of given you 3 degree burns, the cheese was rock hard veggies hard and semi burnt, and the waiter that said watch the plate its hot.....um not hot it was taken out of a Kiln and untouchable it was dangerous. Had the same rude waitress come back to ask if everything was ok, to my response i cant touch the plate, let alone eat my meal which burnt my mouth and totally inedible. her response the plates are always to hot, ohhh thats ok then....not. I called over a male waiter and ask could you take my plate away it horrific scolding hot crime scene, yes dramatic but soooo true. He came with a response of "cant do nothing about it and walked away and didn't even take the plate. I've never taken a meal back or complained but when you pay $189 dollars plus drinks you think someone would take some responsibility or care for your concern, not even the male manager who was at the bar, not a care in the world. I took it back to hear the waiter talking to the female that seemed to be in charge behind the counter next to the kitchen, did he eat it!!! not even should go see if the customer is ok or at least apologies. I placed the plate down explained my discuss and concern and not a word. I forgot to mention when the old RSL was running before the build, we went weekly with my mother and my step dad, and I was a affiliate member. the food was awesome, the staff were amazing and were always friendly and helpful. My parents always enjoyed going for dinner to the RSL. I sat down thinking well someone might come and ask what was happening, an apology, something, no just attitude from the waitress and everyone stayed away. I wasn't interested in getting my money back but what i was annoyed about was that the staff had the gall to complain about us as it was our fault for the poor service from some staff and the sub par food that was served to us. I know this how, we know a staff member that messaged us explaining how the staff didn't see any issue with the food. I'm embarrassed that I took my mum to the Box Hill RSL for her birthday feeling dumb founded to what just happen us. We know that no one cares especially the staff about this review but letting people know and venting helps slightly. the venue new, the atmosphere bland, the food the worst ever, also forgot to mention the Rump risotto which was hard and over cooked (Tasteless) and the customer service zero from certain staff which made the experience uncomfortable and awkward. I'm so disappointed in the new RSL. little advice from a valid customer, take a leaf out of the book from the RYE RSL, outstanding food, great fast service and Staff, could not do enough for you. Good luck your going to need more customers to pay that fancy renovation debt, lucky you have the pokies. Many thanks concerned customer. P.s I even had a guest with us who was in hospitality, and she was totally shocked by the treatment and service we received and that no one even reacted or responded to our complaint. Please do not respond as no one cared to help us on the night or at least be...

Amazing staffs at a great venue... A huge thanks to the staffs and Manager for looking after mum. We took mum there for lunch. Unfortunately she wasn't feeling well when we arrived. Mum said she didn't want any lunch and would be happy to wait at reception while we have our lunch. We were early and knew it would be a quick lunch, so I made her comfortable and proceeded with our orders. When I checked on her, she was lying down to rest instead of sitting up. The Manager came over to check if she's OK and offered to find a spot in their library for her to rest while we have our lunch. However, we decided to take mum home. The staffs quickly organised our meals to take home. What a fantastic gesture from the Manager and staffs at the RSL Box Hill.

The Seafood Platter we took home was amazing. The battered fish was so well prepared that the batters were still crispy even after being packed and brought home. All components of the seafood platter was delicious and generous portions.

The staffs were super friendly and most welcoming from the moment we stepped into the foyer. As previously mentioned, the Manager was so attentive and caring. Thank you.

The venue has high ceiling and open spaces. Tables are well spaced so you feel very private even in the middle of the room.

It was unfortunate we were not able to enjoy our lunch there yesterday. But we will definitely be back and will organise future...

Unless you are a Box Hill RSL member already, give it a big miss! The Box Hill RSL has lost its way as an RSL and have simply focused on making money.

I have been an RSL member in Victoria for many years and when we were in Box Hill last week, we decided that was the ideal destination for a good, affordable meal and a drink. However... because my RSL membership was not issued from their sub-branch, Pat said they would not honour it at the Box Hill RSL bar or bistro. I'm quite sure that during WW1 when my grandfather fought at Galipoli & France and when my wife's father fought in classified missions in the Z Special (forerunner to the Special Forces) in WW2, they did not fight for the town they were born in nor for the towns that they lived in when they enlisted, etc, they fought for our country... Australia! It's bad enough that the RSL is state based and not federal and memberships are state by state and that there are no reciprocal rights when interstate. However, I was under the impression that each Victorian sub-branch was supposed to honour all Victorian Memberships!

Beyond this, everything is expensive a la carte restaurant pricing, not fair-dinkum RSL pricing. This member will not give up his membership, but he will never go back to the Box...
