Dinner @GingerBoyMelb and got GB's Adventure Banquet.
Hiramasa kingfish sashimi, tamarind and chilli dressing, pickled cucumber, creme fraiche, red elk Wow, lovely fresh start to the meal. Love the balance of the sweet and acidic elements of the pickled cucumber and dressing, creaminess from the creme fraiche, and the crunch of the dehydrated rice.
Son in law eggs, chilli jam, spiced tamarind caramel, Thai basil Never eaten this before and despite not being a big fan of eggs I liked it very much, especially with the delicious chilli jam
Smashed cucumber salad, shallot, coconut yoghurt, black fungus, mint, Sichuan chilli oil, sesame Who knew the humble cucumber could be turned into something more tasty? The thin fungus is chewy, the coconut yoghurt refreshing, the chilli spicy, mint for more freshness and sesame seeds for crunch.
Steamed aromatic pork dumpling, roasted red chilli sauce, fried shallot A lovely dumpling with soft skin, tasty pork filling and that salty spicy flavour, particularly from the chilli sauce.
Salt and pepper chicken spare rib, tamarind hot sauce Who doesn't love ribs? Get your fingers dirty and dive in to enjoy the tender chicken coated in a sour but deceptively spicy tamarind sauce. Wooo, that chilli sauce keeps building!
Thai red duck leg curry, red confit shallots, hot and sour salad, coconut cream Wok tossed Asian greens, sugar pea, baby corn, spiced oyster sauce, Chinese sausage, garlic Oh this is amazing! A creamy sumptuous curry coating Jasmine rice is unbelievable. And the duck is fantastic too. Tender, succulent, slightly crunchy in parts on the outside. Along with the yummy Asian greens, this is an excellent end to the savoury items. Now for dessert.
Chocolate and Vietnamese coffee mousse, macadamia crumb, dulce de leche ice cream I had asked if it was possible to have the dessert swapped for the mousse which is on the Luxe Journey banquet. A very generous serve, one spoonful of the absolutely decadent chocolatey mousse has your sweet tastebuds come alive! There's a subtle aftertaste of the deep blend of the Vietnamese coffee. The dulce de leche ice cream is also delicious and refreshing and pairs well with the mousse.
Fantastic end to an excellent array of flavoursome dishes in the ambient upstairs space and enjoyed the friendly professional service.
@GingerboyMelb have an express lunch menu @ $35 for 3 coursed and a drink.
I loved the smooth wanton encasing a delicious filling and different textures.
The main was excellent. Crispy fried chicken sit atop thin noodles which sits atop a thick creamy south east Asian curry. The crunchy shallots add nice texture, the crispy chicken is excellent, love the noodles to sop of the superb Asian flavours and there's just enough curry that it doesn't drown the other ingredients bit is enough to coat the noodles and deliver the punch of flavour. Clever dish.
Dessert presents two sorbets, both tropical and fruity and oh so refreshingly delicious. The mango just pops with flavour and the coconut is more cooling. Sitting atop a yummy coconut laden crumband palm sugar syrup to add that touch of sweetness and slight bitterness, lovely way to finish the meal.
I loved their adventure menu but for a snapshot of the flavours that they can deliver, this was a relaxing lunch with excellent service in an ambient atmosphere.

Read moreHi,
Today, I wanted to share my experience of my recent visit to Gingerboy, hoping that it would also assist others in making their decision to visit one of the many restaurants across Melbourne.
Both my partner and I recently visited Gingerboy for our anniversary which I had heard about due to a recent business lunch at Ezard.
We decided to go down the a la carte menu as the banquet didn’t represent good value for money, as mentioned by other reviewers on this site. The food was ok, but nothing extraordinary for the price we paid ($220 for dinner for 2). The highlight would have been both the dessert and the service from our waiter. We left Gingerboy that night thinking that it was expensive, but overall it was worth going to once but we wouldn’t return for dinner…. Only dessert.
In the next 48 hours, my views would change dramatically. I woke up later that that night at about 2am with severe back and stomach pains. I won’t provide further details, but a visit to the hospital the next day confirmed that I had contracted food poisoning.
I contacted Gingerboy to let them know that I had fallen ill after dining at the restaurant the following night, and was quickly put through to the manager at the time. She advised that they would look into the food I had eaten the previous night, as they keep food from one day to another and get back to me. I did not receive a call back.
I called again the next day to confirm if there had been any outcomes to their investigation. Again, promised a call later that night, and did not receive a call back. Call them the next morning, and spoke with another manager, and advised that a letter would be sent out to me and that he would call me back.
Once again I did not receive a call. To cut an already long story short, throughout the whole experience I felt they did not take my illness or experience at their restaurant seriously. I am still waiting on the letter to arrive in my mailbox, and the last conversation with their manager denied that their food might have caused my illness and that it must have been something I ate earlier in the day. Needless to say, I will never be returning to an Ezard Group restaurant. Hope everyone else’s experience at Gingerboy is more...

Gingerboy is a vibrant CBD restaurant & bar with funky, disco-style decor dishiing up south-east Asian, street style eats. Head Chef Teage created a menu with a nod to his favourite hawker adventures. 🥟
Not only is the food SE Asian inspired but so is there killer drinks list. Even though some ingredients were missing, their expert bar staff were able to mix us up something even better. You can take a seat at the bar down stairs or upstairs for a meal, it’s the perfect vibe to catch up with friends.
The service here was amazing and definitely has improved from previous visits, we felt they went above and beyond to ensure we were looked after. We ordered their Luxe Journey Banquet Menu ($100pp) and although we had some strict allergies, we were fed very well. You will not be hungry after this! 👅
The first few dishes were okay (Kingfish, Son in Law Egg, Cucumber Salad) lacked seasoning and that wow factor. The Scallops were sadly very dry and the Prawn Buns were delicious but only lightly filled leaving us craving more. 🍤
Dish of the night for me was the drool worthy Wagyu Steak, the Rice Noodle Rolls and the spicy Gyoza. I don’t feel the rice and lettuce were well thought out sides, some greens would have been better. 🥩
Now that I know which dishes I enjoy, I would probably order from the A La Carte Menu next time but the Banquet is perfect for groups who may find the menu too overwhelming to choose from. It was a mixture of shared and individuals dishes and as a party of 3 we often had 2 dishes to share which was plenty. So good for odd numbers 😉
