The worst customer service I’ve experienced in a really long time. Aggressive, rude and will never return. We did not have a good experience at Chez Bagou on the weekend. A small party of 6 chose to sit outside for drinks prior to dinner elsewhere, more than 10 minutes and we were still waiting for menus and to order. Once having ordered we waited nearly 30 minutes for our drinks to which I politely went inside to check where they were. A man who appeared to be the manager comes out in an angry manner with drinks and exclaims very rudely to me that in fact it was only 20 minutes we’d been waiting. A simple apology for the wait would have been accepted rather than his immediate defence. The beers were not full and no longer cold and when requested to replace them with fresh ones, the staff member/manager aggressively began to verbally attack the request. So overcome with his anger he storms back inside and comes back out to his with fresh beers to which he is muttering rude statements under his breath. He then proceeds to stand over the top of my husbands head leans against his back and proceeds to pour the new beer into my husbands glass with force right in his face. We were then avoided for the remainder of our time at the venue. I’d have thought after weeks in lockdown, having patrons prepared to sit outside in winter and purchase wine would be welcomed by staff of whom haven’t been able to work or operate the business for weeks due to restrictions. Above all else though, you should absolutely never treat customers with such aggression ever. We enjoyed a fabulous meal with great service elsewhere and we will be sure to tell family and friends not to go...
Read moreI’ve visited here a few times both in summer and winter. Both a lovely vibe. It’s really nice to sit outside on a hot summers day and cosy inside during winter.
Typical French cuisine and wait staff are all French which of course adds to the ambience. The service was a little hit and miss tonight. I think one staff didn’t have much English but it came off as a bit rude initially. There may have been a couple of newbies. Always busy and packed with locals and regulars.
This time round we ordered for starters: The mushroom truffle croquettes which had a texture like arancini balls and were cooked well. Crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. Can taste the truffle in the filling and the sauce on the side made it as otherwise it would have been a bit bland.
The crab ravioli and lobster bisque… this was my favorite dish! The bisque was out of this world so flavorful and the ravioli was melt in your mouth, I would have absolutely had this for starter and main course! It was SO GOOD!
For mains: Steak tartare which was as it should be. Loved the presentation with the condiments on the side and egg on top. Was a nice touch to mix it together ourselves. The fries were hot and crispy.
The duck confit was tender and the red wine jus was delicious.. I wish there was more on the dish.
The Roquefort salad was delicious & fresh. The dressing was nice and zingy & was the perfect palate cleanser and accompaniment to our mains.
One of my favorite French restaurants in Melbourne. Would recommend if you are after some good hearty...
Read moreVisited for lunch on a weekend and tried a number of dishes. The French onion soup was tasty with the melty cheese but preferred if the bread was not completely soaked and soggy. The spinach ravioli was silky soft, and the porcini sauce with hazelnut has a rich depth of flavour, slightly earthy and nutty. The pan seared scallops were pretty big, cooked just enough to maintain the softness, and the leek fondue was light and buttery with a hint of sweetness from the leek. For mains, had the chicken vol au vent with spinach and morel sauce. The puff pastry was not the flakiest but was easy to cut and there was a generous amount of boneless chicken pieces which was tender. It was paired with spinach to soak up all the sauce which was full of flavour; rich and fatty with a concentrated savouriness. For dessert, the crepe suzette was flambéed tableside; it was soft and thin, and the orange sauce has a strong bittersweet liqueur taste followed by a sweet, zesty and buttery aftertaste. Overall enjoyed the meal, especially the sauces used in the dishes which were very tasty and flavoursome. Service was also good, the food was served in a timely manner even though...
