Conway Fish Trading — Restaurant in Melbourne

After going to great lengths to travel a long way to buy 2 crayfish for a special dinner, sadly those crays quickly ended up in the rubbish because they were simply inedible and absolutely tasteless.

I can't convey how disatisfied and upset I was for 4 days thereafter as I struggled to have a Conway's person call me back regarding this problem.

When I did finally get to speak with someone able to make a decision, I was told no refunds are offered after 24 hours. I said my 3 previous phone call messages should be listened to and then, there shouldn't be a question about a refund! Moreover, photos were taken of how dreadfully dried up the insides of the fish were.

After travelling back and 'standing my ground' I finally obtained a refund albeit, it came reluctantly! Forget about the expensive travel cost I incured and/or the lack of any goodwill compensation. that was flately denied.

After seeing the photographic evidence, hearing how the evening was destroyed, and me explaining about my time and travel costs, you'd think that somesort of compensation would have been offered.

My opinion?; Firstly, if I could've provided a ZERO Star Rating, I most certainly would've. Secondly, as a business, Conways appear sucessful in-spite of how they go about it but, then again, it's easy to suggest "it's probably how this product came in from the supplier" (which is exactly what was said to me!). Finally, they clearly don't put much emphasis on customers ending up very, very unhappy when purchasing their expensive seafood.

We were after Oysters for New Years Eve, rang ahead and asked to pay over the phone and have them put aside. This service is only offered on Christmas eve. We asked what type they had and would they still have some available if we arrived at 5 as we were travelling from the country. We were advised the oysters would be $17 per dozen if we purchased 5 doz and coffin bay oysters. We were repeatedly assured there would not run out as they had ample available. We aslo asked the price of cooked prawns and were advised $45 per kg. We arrived at 4:45, they had run out of coffin bay, the alternative were gigantic, defrosted NZ oysters, we went to pay they were $21.50 per dozen and the prawns were $48 per kg. We questioned the product and price, the staff really could seriously not care less, very poor service, poor product, completely overpriced. Conways you have gone way down hill.
