We were so looking forward to supporting a local business and enjoying fish and chips with the family to break the Covid drought. Upon approaching the service counter, the music was incredibly loud and the staff were unable to hear our order until we requested the volume be turned down so that we were able to hear one another. Unfortunately the chips and batter was inedible. The chips were a caramel/brown colour and saturated in oil (with the ability to squeeze out oil with utensils) and the batter on fish and scallops was excessively thick and also saturated in oil. The grilled fish was edible. We approached the manager in person and he was dismissive and stated that the fried food is cooked in a ‘rustic’ method and it is a personal choice as to whether you like their process. He declined to explain what the process entailed however upon perusing the internet I found that it means fried twice. The fried food was not fresh to taste and unfortunately we had to throw most of it out. It was a disappointing experience as we anticipated a quality and care of both food and service, particularly since located next to the fresh fish market which we purchase our fresh...
Read moreVery disappointed on each occasion I have been here. Now driving to Seddon or Kensington for fish and chips. I always had high expectations of this place as it has the benefit of being beside a fresh fish shop. I tried the flake on my first visit and for the only time in my life has to throw out the fish. It was mushy and tasteless, definitely not gummy shark. Second occasion we asked for fried fish from a decent selection of fish. The RULES are no fried fish except for flake and blue grenadier. Why? No we can’t fry the barramundi, no we don’t have whiting… I’m not sure why I went back. Trip 3 can I have flake in the fish and chip pack rather than the fish of the day - blue grenadier (which is also the fish of the day everyday)? No you must order them separately $13 v $10. Sometimes customer service and understanding customer expectations goes a long way to make up for a below average food experience but when you consistently fail on both it is time for a change rather than the business/owner/manager rudely responding to online reviews. People who take time to complete a review care about providing feedback for your business and don’t expect to be rudely...
Read moreThis was the only fish and chip shop nearby open on a Monday, so I decided to give it a shot. My partner was picking up burgers from another store beforehand as he doesn’t eat fish and chips, and unfortunately that other store’s estimate of when the order would be ready was incorrect, so I arrived to pick up my fish and chips 10 minutes later than expected, quite close to closing time. I apologised profusely on arrival. The person who served me did not respond to what I said. She just confirmed my order, moved the eftpos machine towards me and told me the total without making eye contact. She slowly collected my order and handed it to me without eye contact or smiling. I said ‘thank you so much, I appreciate it!’ She did not respond.
Over the phone, I’d requested twice that the chips have chicken salt on them, but they did not. For $6 as the minimum amount of chips, I was incredibly disappointed at the amount, other stores would have given nearly double. My flake was quite nice. I was disappointed that blue grenadier was not an option. I do not...
