Just went to Cowderoy's Dairy. Was very busy, with both dining and takeaway customers. Had to wait less than 5 minutes for 3 soy lattes, being an anxious person I was happy to be able to wait outside on the decking or wander down the street for a quick smoke. The coffee was superb; literally the best coffee I've had in 11 months in Melbourne: both the bitterness and the sweetness of the coffee balanced perfectly with the best soy microfoam I've had in a long time. Even my sister who doesn't care much for cafe coffee commented that it was delish. No cobwebs in sight, clean tables and counter and a lovely friendly lad behind the till, doing a great job of expediting a lot of tricky orders in a fairly noisy cafe, and an equally friendly and lovely lass smashing out high quality coffees at lightspeed whilst still taking the care to not burn either the coffee or the milk. Lovely view of Jacoby reserve, and the park itself has plenty of seats if you want to sit amongst the trees and birds and watch the number 12 tram trundle past on Park Street. Great service and great coffee, homies! Will definitely be back and will be pointing anybody in need of good coffee and friendly service in your direction :) Thanks!
P.S.
David Gabriel-Jones is a liar who, judging by his snootish register and childish "the world revolves around me" diction, has a small and deformed prennis, most likely on his forehead, which he probably covers with a wanky fedora. Loser detected, set phasers...
Read moreI’ll be honest, when I walked into this cafe and ordered my coffee, I had my doubts. The barista, an elderly gentleman, moved with the kind of speed you don’t usually associate with great coffee. I’ve been let down before by rushed, careless shots, so I was fully expecting another average cup.
What happened next absolutely blindsided me: This coffee was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. And I don’t say that lightly- I’m the sort of person who picks apart every cup. I’m picky, bordering on impossible to please, but this was the real deal.
What made it stand out? • The espresso was perfectly balanced- rich, smooth, and not a trace of bitterness. • The milk (if you take milk) was steamed to silky perfection, not a hint of scald. • And the speed? Turns out, it wasn’t carelessness. It was confidence born from years of experience. This guy knows his craft inside and out- no fuss, no pretension, just skill.
Moral of the story: Don’t judge a coffee (or a barista) by the speed of their pour. Sometimes, the best cups come from the most unassuming hands.
If you care about coffee, do yourself a favor and drop in. You might be surprised- I...
Read moreGreat little cafe right next to a children's playground, with cosy atmosphere unspoiled by "modernisation". You can watch your kids play while sipping your latte. No other of that kind around. And your dog is welcome on the outdoors deck. A place where you find the locals and watch the yummy mummies if you are so inclined. The above part was written years ago. For a time, they had great live jazz on Sunday lunchtime, bringing in much needed customers and atmosphere, but they refuse to even offer a free coffee to the unpaid musicians. So the music stopped. Recently, the place feels a gray and drab, the happy vibes are gone. Same old fare forever, stuff you get in any cafe, no experimentation, no innovation. Needs some fresh wind to shake it up. Somehow, they have no sense for our cafe culture. Putting up the chairs an hour before closing time, very inviting. And now they play loud banal pop music. Unbearable inside, and still irritating on the...
