where the locals go. my friends and I went to the Cross on a Saturday night for a little and quiet after-birthday celebration. It was a perfect choice as we enjoyed a fantastic dinner, beautiful drinks, delicious desserts, and a stunning Whisky paddle which I will tell more about later. A little entree of two dishes, Salmon Ceviche, and Crumbed Calamari was enough to share amongst the four of us and we were happy that we followed the advice of the waitress who mentioned that the mains will be filling. So, for mains, we enjoyed a Beetroot Gnocchi, a Pan Seared Salmon, a Lamb Shoulder, and a Steak Sandwich. And yes, the dishes are as delicious as it shows in the pictures we took!! But now to the highlight of the evening. We ordered a Whisky paddle that got matched with delicious Chocolate pralines. I never was much of a fan of Whisky, but what we got served that night just changed my mind. The Whiskys, selected by the waiter who knows his stuff, were incredible tasteful each with a unique flavour and a perfect match with the chocolates. The Cross has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and it is so much more than just another pub on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. Truly, a place...

We (Andy and Wendy) have just spent two months in Australia touring around and visiting my daughter in St Kilda. We stumbled across The Cross one night while strolling out, lots of laughter coming from inside and music, we thought this isn’t the pub for us, and walked on. The following night we fancied a nice meal out, as we were on holiday! We popped in just for a drink-the rest is history as they say, we tried the pie and mash, as it was “Pie night” as every night is a theme. We ate thereafter as much as our schedule allowed, Roast dinner, steak nights, I even took my daughter there, who was sceptical, as she too thought it was a loud pub. We found a little table at the back of the pub, which we sat nearly every time we went- the food was 10/10 every time!! The service was also the same and the owner Jock is a very thoughtful man-putting his staff and customers first. Thank you to the chefs busy in the kitchen, you made our holiday - we bought wo The cross t-shirts too!!! Which will be worn with pride- Thank you Jodie , who became our PA 😉. Regards Wendy and...

WARNING - went to this bar for food last night. I ordered the chicken balmoral, I was very excited to have the dish and started to tuck in. However I quickly noticed after cutting the chicken apart that it was not properly cooked, not just a bit pink but raw. My partner informed the bar staff who took the dish back to the kitchen. They offered to recook the meal, initially I agreed but then decided not to risk my chances again and asked for a toastie. At no point did the staff apologise or express concern at having served raw chicken to me. I am now feeling violently ill and extremely disappointed in my experience...

Had the Lamb Sunday Roast and the Chicken Spice Bag at The Cross in St Kilda and both were absolutely top-notch. The roast was generous, nicely plated, and packed with flavour—tender lamb, crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and rich gravy that brought it all together. Proper comfort food done right. The Chicken Spice Bag was a standout too—crispy chicken, well-seasoned chips, and just the right amount of spice and heat. Great portion size. Service was friendly and the atmosphere had that cosy pub feel. Definitely worth coming back on a Sunday!

We were here for the Sunday Roast (13/7/25) It was simply the best roast I have had out ever! Roast beef (tender and flavourful) served with Broccoli, carrots, mash potato, roast potato, stuffing, yorkie, cauliflower cheese and gravy- fabulously generous serving- so comforting! Of note were the chicken goujons too, we shared as a starter with hot sauce and mayo- crispy, juicy and piping hot!! The Spice bag was also very very good- we will be back! Including 3 pints it was around $110- excellent value!
