I took my daughter here ... I love roast duck .. I always get the chopped duck with rice and generally there is a sauce ... it also came with a special leaf vegetable that was under the duck . On entry we encountered the take away crowd ... this is always a good sign ... we broke through the crowd and were seated in a nice booth and immediately served hot tea. My daughter indicated this aids digestion ... I also ordered a coke which is a "special occasions drink" for me . The roast duck was excellent with a sense of crispy-ness to the skin .. and a generous serving . We shared it with a serving of vegetarian spring rolls. The manager indicated it was Hong Kong style making the experience even more authentic. On the way out I swung past the kitchen where the head chef was wearing a fancy chef hat to see the roasting / BBQ ovens . Did I forget to mention the sauce that was included and an extra sweet sauce I got for dipping ... scrumpscious. .... always good ... From Bob Appetite !
PS: Since finalizing this review and checking out some other reviews of this place ... I feel compelled to go back again and try the roast port or the roast duck combo ... but not today as it is...
Read moreThis is the most horrible experience I had in this restaurant. The guy that chopping the roast pork for me was deliberately yelled at me in chinese. Initially I only wanted $8 义燒(roast pork) but the lady said the minimum is $10. Then I said , no problems. When it came out, it was around $14. The lady asked me was it too much? I said yes as I'm only buying for myself. Then she went back to the guy that chopped the roast pork , can it cut a bit back. The the guy just yelled saying only $10 and you requested not cutting, too troublesome, etc and it was so loud! I was shocked to hear and I said. I said to him if you told me earlier I can decide what I wanted. I'm a customer and I have the right to order what I want. You also have the right to tell me whether what I required was ok to accept. No neex to yell at your customer. The lady at the counter was embarrassed and apologised to me. I said, I would never come back here, there isn't one one shop in this area.
People need to respect people and no need to yell. At the end of the day I'm the customer. I'm here to pay for a service, if I'm not happy, I go...
Read moreWe got to the restaurant after being walking around the Box Hill streets. We didn't have any idea of the restaurant or what restaurant to walk in, I only follow the golden rule "if it's full of locals walk in". The outside of the restaurant is pretty much written in Chinese, so a bit intimidating for an occidental but it's also authentic. There are not many tables inside and at the entrance you can buy the duck or pork in portions. The lady who took our order was very polite and had patience when we asked her to come back because we weren't sure what to order. The menu is large. There are also pics of the food on the wall and in a tv which I recommend looking at for simplicity. We had XO fried rice and szechuan stir beef. Both dishes were delicious and very very generous portions. They also serve complimentary glass of tea. Great experience and highly recommendable, I will go back.
