Unique dining experience with your own private chef. Enter the dark and mysterious world of the Emerald City through Cavanagh’s Whisky & Alehouse in front, and through the thick dark curtains into the smallest of private areas where a slab table separates kitchen and dining, allowing conversation with Joel who chats away happily while preparing your meal and discussing the finer points of the meal and expanding on his knowledge of Healesville and surrounds. Very comfortable atmosphere and the meal is right up there, not only looking good, but really special, full of flavour and augmented beautifully with the accompanying wines.

Maximum number of diners is four, but we were two and enjoyed the one on one with the chef Joel. Special experience…many thanks.

We also spent an hour or so at Cavanagh’s afterwards, tasting a variety of whiskies and enjoying the bar tender’s knowledge and educational choices…good fun.

Beautiful night with a great companions in a very cool setting and lovely food and drinks! A little hidden chef table in the kitchen behind the Cavanagh's Whisky bar. Joel was an amazing chef and host of his very pretty kitchen! I love the green glass light decorating the room 💚🧩❇️! The set menu was $175 per person and seasonal, I think it was more like a feed me menu rather than set menu as there was no actual set number of the food provided. We had an entree plate of 3 bites🥚🧀, a bowl of fresh vegs with sesame dressing, some 🍠 sweet potato tempura, roasted pumpkin with reduction sauce, 🥩 steak for main, a palette cleanser of frozen Yuzu 🍋, and 2 desserts to finish off the meal. I recently celebrated my birthday at Emerald City, and it was nothing short of magical! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Joel and his team made us feel right at home with their friendly demeanor and exceptional service.

Joel, the chef and owner,truly is a culinary wizard! Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The four-seating dining experience added a unique touch, allowing us to connect with the other couple next to us . By the end of the night, we had formed new friendships, sharing laughter and stories over a delicious meal.
