Evil Thoughts on Lygon Street presents an intriguing concept reminiscent of the atmosphere in Shaun Tan’s ‘The Lost Thing.’ While the bar’s ambience is rich and thought-provoking, it may feel a bit exclusive, almost like a ‘club within a club.’ As a fan of Tan’s work, I felt this exclusivity might not align with the book’s message. However, the concept has potential and could benefit from a more inclusive feel that truly welcomes all patrons into its unique world.

To enhance the unique atmosphere, it might be interesting to draw inspiration from other imaginative works, such as Neil Gaiman’s ‘Neverwhere’ or Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth.’ These could provide a more cohesive and welcoming narrative while maintaining the mysterious and thought-provoking ambiance. Embracing a broader range of influences could help create a space that resonates more deeply with a wider audience.

I hosted my birthday at Evil Thoughts and WOW did Morgan, Eljae, and Issac went over and beyond, from concept to execution! Planning a personal milestone and having seamless streams of communication pre- & post- event from vendor deliveries to those pesky items left behind from the multiple costume changes and then transported crosstown the day after, what more could you ask for.

Having a personalised welcome cocktail upon arrival for your guest is something that took this master mixologist and I several creative tastings but well worth the work.

We hosted the soiree just out back and the amazing atmosphere created which lends itself from the venues visual and physical aesthetics, allowed for grazing stations, group conversations, a photo wall, and small intimate moments. Let's not forget the photomontage that projected all night, which was was truly special touch.

This is the best place to unwind in Brunswick Esst. Eljae, Morgan and Issac are the nicest people that will make you feel immediately like you are home. The food was so good with really generous serving sizes and my god these guys know their cocktails! Uniquely Australian and expertly crafted. All of their cocktails are 10/10 but the redrum and the Son of Sirens are works of art and honestly the best cocktails I‘ve ever tried in my life. There are so many meh bars where you don’t feel welcome but this place should be a “must visit” on...
