This place is new so don't want to score too low as they are still finding their feet - just want to provide some potential improvements.
Coffee - have had twice, the second time it was really burnt so we could not drink it. This was after waiting ten minutes while the barista was on her phone not making the drinks. When we told her the coffee quality was poor, she took them off the bill but didn't apologise, just said "ok" - clearly couldn't care less!
Blue eye - fish a bit overcooked.
Tofu - could be cut into smaller pieces to make it easier to eat. More sauce as was a bit bland and way too much pickled ginger.
Dumplings - yum! Best thing we had.
Squid - a bit tough and quite a strong taste of fryer oil. Needed seasoning.
Service - the waitress on the floor was doing a spectacular job managing so many tables, especially while the barista sat on her phone jot attending to customers trying to pay! We also would have liked all the dishes so come out as mains and entrees rather than all at once and getting cold, but this might have been due to us ordering in a confusing way.
We hope the small things are fixed up because the place has a great vibe and menu and is a great addition to...
Read moreRecently dined and seated outside on a beautiful Sunday for lunch. We were welcomed by a lovely waitress and given menus and water right away. Started qith a couple of pale ales to quench the thirst. bench seating quite comfy and shaded. Its so welcoming to be able to bring along our dog without issue! We like to dine as it comes so proceeded to order oysters and kingfish sashimi both very well plated and fresh ! went well with the first beer!. followed on by a shared plate of pork bao and Jungle curry with a very crisp and well cooked pork hock.. with a side of rice of course. Flavors were full and varied and just a nice amount of kick to make the pale ale go down a treat. We drank and ate enjoying the weather whilst being well looked after by our waitress. After leaving a gratuity, we walked away full and satisfied for around 100 per head. Reccomend to everyone and happy to come back another day. Thanks for a...
Read moreGilbert's is our favorite restaurant, which is why I chose it to celebrate my 65th birthday with my family - most of who had never been to Gilbert's before. Verdict was a big thumbs up...the menu is exciting, and the food was just delicious, plentiful and beautifully prepared and plated. Everyone was astounded that such a unique and quality restaurant exists in Bentleigh. We shared a range of scrumptious starters, while everyone chose their main meal which they enjoyed without exception. Having lived in Asia, the amazing flavors of Gilbert's food, transported me back to a place I was called home. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Thank you for helping me celebrate my birthday with...
