Ok. I have to admit. I donāt believe I have ever taken the time to review a takeaway fish and chip shop.
We arrived back in Hampton Monday afternoon from a trip to Brisbane, no food in the house and we both agreed fish and chips would be good tonight.
Alas, it is Monday night and our usual Hampton fish and chip shop is not open. š
Decided to try Hampton St Fish and Co. Very pleasantly surprised to find they offer fish in bread crumbs - a staple option in Queensland, but not so in Victoria, where battered fish is the go. Ordered crumbed flake and chips.
An easy 10 minute wait for the phone order and I arrived promptly to see the delightful young lady of the shop (loved her cute hat) preparing our fish for boxing. Not just tip it out of the frying oil into a box - a very deliberate, slow ā dressingā of the fish with salt, a very light sprinkle of green herbs, added lemon and into the box. I did think she was preparing 2 orders at the same time, such was the quantity of the fish - but no, it was all ours šš. As to chips, likely the best chips we have enjoyed in ages.
And some nice friendly interaction and discussion with the lady and likely her husband - two young Japanese people who really know how to run a good business and how to deliver outstanding quality and quantity in the order
I am not aware of your names, young folk, . but you and your business are outstanding.
I have now found our new fish and chip shop in Hampton āļøāļø
Highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām fussy about my fish and chips and have tried most local places in Hampton, Highett, Cheltenham, Black Rock, Beaumaris and Sandringham. This is my absolute favourite place Iāve been going to for five years ( back when it was called Hampton Fish and Chippers) and hereās why; best chips and they have chicken salt but no MSG food additive. So great for asthmatics and people with allergies. They will also cook the food how you like, I always ask for my chips to be extra crispy but not my calamari overdone and thatās what they always deliver. They switched the oil recently and now the chips are even better. The calamari is made with bread crumbs which I prefer and itās never stringy or overcooked. And the tartare sauce doesnāt taste minty, which I hate. Itās also very reasonably priced. I find the origami decorations in the shop to be charming but Iām not fussed about decor only food. Try this place, you wonāt be disappointed. Iāve tried other menu items including the katsu burgers which are really good. I donāt often write reviews, but Hampton St Fish Co...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStumbled onto this place when we left Brighton Beach and googled for Fish and Chips. Not to be confused with another place called Hampton Fish and Chips, Hamptons Fish & Chippers is managed by a lovely Japanese couple who were very warm and friendly. We were pleasantly surprised that they also served Japanese food. We tried the Fish and Chips pack, the Burger with the Lot, the Katsu Curry and the Tempura. This Gummy flake was fresh, and trust me when I say this, Iām not a big fish lover, but this fish was delicious enough for me. My son rated the burger 8/10 and said the meat was tender and juicy. Japanese food can never go wrong with us, and it was yummy! Overall, food was good, and perfect to feed a hungry family of 4.
Thank you for the niku-man! I had a bite of it and wanted more but my husband and daughter gobbled them up before I could ask...
