Be warned if you dine here; if you can go elsewhere, you will see why in this review!
From the get-go, the whole experience was very bad! I booked a table for 2 under my name via the book now link on the website, but upon arriving, the young lady could not understand me, and I had to repeat three times that I had a booking for 2. Then she was looking it up and kept asking for my name, which I repeated four times for her to say, Jamie!" How on earth did you get Zac from Jamie? I don't know! I corrected her and said, No, it's Jamie, and she shrugged it off and took us to a table with no apology.
Then we were told to scan the QR code for the menu, only to discover that not the whole menu was on there, and only to have the service lady say, "Oh yeah, it's not all there and still getting fixed; I will get you physical menus." Maybe you should be doing this from the start?
We ordered entree and mains, stating we wanted entree first, mains after, and then ordered some drinks. This alone was very hard. We had to repeat five times what we wanted as the lady could not understand us. . The entree arrived fine, and we started to eat it. Then a large group of guys came in who had obviously been drinking before, were loud, etc., which took away from the atmosphere and made it hard for everyone else inside to have a conversation or enjoy their meals.
We thought, Okay, they may settle a bit once they order and eat.
A bit after this, the service lady brings our mains of chimichanga out while we are still eating our entree and puts them on the table, not even 5 minutes after the entree was first brought out to us. We looked and thought, Ok, this is odd, even though we asked for the mains to come after.
So we had to leave the entree to eat mains so it wouldn't be cold and we could enjoy it while it was hot. We were wrong! The mains were lukewarm!
From this point on, the large group of guys that rocked up are getting louder and dropping F bombs (mind you, there was a father and his young daughter inside too), and staff are not doing anything about it. We decided to leave most of our food to go pay and leave as it was not the atmosphere we enjoy!
So I went to pay and saw this item ordered come up on screen, and I thought that the price seemed off, but maybe I misread the menu cost.
Chimichange x2 was $48+. and the nachos were over $16, etc.
Any way paid the $93+ meal and left. Once away from your restaurant, I was able to look up your website to see that, in fact, we were overcharged for everything we ordered! We added up what we ordered from the menu, which should have come to $89 even, but we paid barely $5 more, and we were like, How can that be? as that's way more than the legal card fee allowed of 2.5% for credit cards and.5% for debit (which I used), and if it were that, it should have been $90.78, so we thought, No, it's not that.
We worked out that the meal was surcharged by 7%.
Then we read down your menu in small print: you charge 7% surcharge on weekends and 15% on public holidays.
Now since this was a Tuesday night, how can you be charging a weekend surcharge?
This is misleading advertising, and not only will I not be recommending your restaurant to anyone, but we will also not be returning and will look at filing a complaint with Consumer Affairs to investigate your...
Read moreHecho en Mexico Richmond is one of the suburb’s most fun and vibrant spots, with the rooftop bar making it an absolute standout. From the moment you arrive, there’s a lively energy — colourful, welcoming, and full of atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that instantly puts you in the mood for good food, good drinks, and a great night out.
The food is excellent, with a menu that delivers all the Mexican favourites and does them really well. Tacos are fresh, flavourful, and perfectly portioned, the burritos are hearty and satisfying, and the share plates are ideal for groups. Everything tastes fresh and authentic, with generous servings and plenty of variety to suit different tastes and dietary needs.
The rooftop bar is the highlight. It’s stylish but relaxed, with great views and an atmosphere that feels festive without being over the top. It’s the perfect place for a sunny afternoon session with friends or a lively evening with cocktails under the stars.
Speaking of drinks, the margaritas are fantastic — fresh, zingy, and just the right balance. The cocktail list overall is fun and creative, and there’s also a solid selection of beers, wines, and non-alcoholic options to keep everyone happy.
The staff are upbeat, attentive, and quick to keep things flowing, even when it’s busy. You get the sense that they genuinely want you to enjoy yourself, and that adds to the overall vibe.
What I love most about Hecho en Mexico Richmond is the mix of great food, lively atmosphere, and that rooftop space, which makes the whole experience feel like something special. It’s a place that works equally well for casual weeknight dinners, group celebrations, or weekend drinks.
If you’re in Richmond and looking for authentic Mexican food and a rooftop bar with real personality, Hecho en Mexico...
Read moreTaco Tuesday! Hecho En Mexico has just opened in Richmond with a $5 taco offer. Being a chain I feel safe with the spices, one chili rating was totally chill. One of each taco please. . 🍤Prawn* 🐔Chicken* 🐟Fish 🥩Beef 🥓Chorizo 🐷Pork . Loaded with toppings these tacos looked good, though oddly they didn't have lime, only lemon on the side. . Prawn was delicious and my favourite, full of flavour like the chicken. The fish itself was good but needs more flavour, a stronger sauce maybe? Beef needs more flavour, spices we think. 3 hot sauces on the side certainly helped. . 🍹 Margaritas were served in cute cactus glasses! The horchata was good too, with an addictive rim. . Fast and friendly service. Music at an acceptable level for an early week dinner, though paired with mostly neon lit areas (for the mood but not pics lol) you know it's going to be a party later in the week. A try once for us. . 🌮 @hecho_en_mexico_australia 📍Richmond 💵 Damage $20pp (we had 4 tacos each, and was rolled out) + drinks. Tacos are normally $8 or 3 for $22 (we think 3 is the right serving size, after being...
