Three friends and I visited Hex Tea around 9pm today.
TLDR: Food and drinks at Hex are good but tonight was probably the last time we would visit as who knows if we're going to be kicked out mid-meal again next time.
Food: 3.5/5 Wanted a signature bubble waffle but was told it was sold out. Ordered tofu pudding with brown sugar and pearl milk tea instead. Tofu pudding was silky and delicious. Brown sugar topping wasn't smooth enough and still had sugar crystals and lumps through it. The pearl milk tea was fine.
Service: 2/5 The staff member who served us at the counter was friendly but seemed a little unfamiliar with the menu or with working the register.
After ordering, we sat at a table next to the counter. Our tofu pudding and tea were served in about 5 minutes. We were chatting and enjoying our meal for about 20 minutes when a staff member asked us to leave our table to give it to another group of people who had just arrived. We were still halfway through our meal but felt like we didn't have a choice in the matter so we left to stand outside the shop. We were the only group to be asked to leave even though there were others who had been in the shop for longer than we had. I'm curious as to why the staff member thought that the customers who arrived after us couldn't wait a few minutes for us to finish eating, like in other food/drink establishments...? After about 30 mins outside, the shop had emptied significantly so the staff member came out to let us know we could head in again but we declined, having already finished our food.
Atmosphere: 3/5 Good mix of round tables and chairs for more formal dining and more comfortable couches and IKEA armchairs for hanging out. Cute cartoon decor and healthy looking plants. There were board games that could be played while having your meal. However, when the shop is busy like when we visited, the number of people can take away from the relaxing atmosphere (imagine having Jenga falling off the neighbouring table and other customers having to reach under your chair to pick up...
Read moreIn Clayton, there are heaps of bubble tea places. However, compared to the other stores, Hex tea is the most welcoming, inviting and delicious! We're so happy that you have opened your business.
We had the Strawberry Tea with Popping Pearls and Lemon Tea. Both teas were refreshing, just the right amount of sweetness and had really fresh ingredients (we loved the dash of lime and fresh mint leaves). We could tell that the owner, Shen, takes loving care in the preparation and delivery.
The cafe is clean, aesthetically pleasing and really cute and cozy! There are heaps of plants around and you can play bored games with your friends here. The other customers were also very happy sitting in the space and we all loved the handwritten card that Shen took the time to write. The customer before us was literally smiling when reading his card and it was a very wholesome thing to observe. 😊
We'll be recommending our friends...

the decor is always evolving, adjusting to the seasonal events like Christmas and lunar new year (loved the promo and the jelly desserts (was perfect and felt like home)), cute plushies and board games--ahh really, these are the reasons why I keep coming back.
