Ate there tonight, food was good, more than half the dumplings weren't available.
Upon arriving we waited for someone to welcome us, and continued to wait, then we saw the owner come over and talk to some regulars at the table right next to where we were standing and have a yarn. Then finally after staring down some waiters one came over.
When seated the waiters took ages to come over and take our order, again, after staring waiters down.
We were seated at the bar which was quite nice but the waiters need to be trained in how to serve people at the bar as every time the came over to lay down cutlery and food they kept interrupting my wife and I by leaning over inbetween us.
The atmosphere was great, they had funky music and at the right volume that we could still hear each other. The interior fitout was impactful, with playful colours, we loved the soup bowl light shades. The menu was fun and easy to read.
It was unfortunate that half the dumplings on the menu weren't available. The waiter told us when we were seated which was fine, however, the owner came around 10 minutes later to tell us that one the the dishes we ordered was also unavailable.
Unfortunately their freezer had recently broken down and they lost a lot of their stock, so I appreciate that they might have had some complications over Chinese new year with their dumpling chef on leave.
The food was good for a new age dumpling restaurant, the portion size and quality was good for the price and suitable for the demographic.
The 4 plates we ordered came out with a big break in between, this want great, as dumplings, yumcha, etc is akin to meze, and as such, is expected there everything should come out at relatively the same time. Especially when there are only 6 dumplings on a plate.
The bok choi plate came out last and well after the rest of the food. This was quite disappointing as the bok Choi was the easiest dish and should have come out much earlier.
All in all a good experience with decent tasting food, with some minor touches this place could...
Read moreLots of potential, but IMMI has a long way to go.
First of all, the service is dreadful. Polite, to be sure, but the staff give all the appearance of people who have never spent a single day working in the restaurant industry. I watched customers give up and walk out the door due to the slow service. The poor woman sitting opposite us waited almost half an hour just to place her order, and then only because the table next to her realized she'd been forgotten and called the staff over on her behalf. When I paid my bill at the counter the woman rang up the bill then excused herself to go serve two other tables before coming back to accept my payment. These are basic, rookie mistakes that even food vans don't make.
The food itself was a mixed bag. The dumplings were good, everything else was bland and in desperate need of seasoning. (Avoid the Kung Pao chicken...it's a dish that's supposed to be spicy but even our 8-year-old couldn't taste the spice).
These shortcomings could perhaps be forgiven if the place was cheap and nasty, but unfortunately it's anything but cheap. A plate of fried rice, one main, three serves of dumplings and a serve of Chinese buns cost us $94.30. No drinks.
Serving expensive, mediocre food with poor service will keep any Mordialloc restaurant going through the busy season when there are enough tourists around who don't know any better, but it won't carry you through the rest of the year when you rely on the locals to keep you running. IMMI would do well to keep...
Read moreWas looking forward to eating at this place last night. Very clean restaurant with nice modern decor. Service was friendly. We waiting about 15 minutes before anyone took our food order. We also watched the couple next door to us get up and leave because no one took their order for over 20 minutes. Food potions were very small and for the high price it is not acceptable to have none of the dishes garnished.
Some of the dishes were salty while others were bland. Yes I did notice the freshness of the ingredients but the taste was not quite right.
Admittedly the restaurant was packed out and it's a new restaurant. Maybe you couldn't handle the crowds of customers but with the right staff in place you will be able to serve everyone just fine.
Main street in Mordialloc has plenty of competition and most of the restaurants are of very high quality both in service and food offerings. Charge the higher price but make sure you deliver on exceptional service and food quality and presentation.
If you don't make positive changes now you will end up like dumplings delish with 1 - 2 customers per night. I accept your reply Jhonny. I know how hard it is to run a restaurant. I worked in my father's restaurants all my life. You need to listen to customer feedback. It absolutely is a good thing.
I hope I will give your restaurant another try one of these days soon. I am looking forward to seeing the positive changes you will...
