I lived in Malaysia for over 20 years and the food was one of the best things about the country, apart from many other things, ofc. The range of items in this menu was great and am keen to try other things apart from the nasi lemak that I ordered the other night. The rice was an issue fir me... not nec very coconut flavoured and it was a bit old ( or ??) as there were some grains that were very hard and crisp, as were the ikan bilis( anchovies) . There was not much heat in the chicken curry although the flavour of this was very nice. The sambal had no heat. It was pretty ordinary. Now I like the way this cook is trying to do business i.e.set up in the 'burbs to give a slice of SEA to the people but i think times must be very tough. This was the second time I've been there and she had none else in the kitchen helping out. She was trying to get food out for 12 diners on her own. That's got to mean it's not easy but if there was a bit more authenticity in the heat and flavours, you'd get me back again, very quickly. Keen to try her curry...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe came here a few weeks ago to celebrate an anniversary and can't wait to come back! We were greeted with a glass of bubbly on arrival to celebrate our special date which was so sweet. We didn't realise it was banquet night the night we booked and that duck was on the menu. When letting Vanitha know that one of us wasn't keen on duck, she happily swapped it out for a lamb rogan josh option instead. You can tell the food is cooked with love- it is far from ordinary. Vanitha incorporates creative cultural fusions that are a little different (Indian, Malaysian and a little middle eastern too). So many different flavours, spices and little surprises like the little touch of pineapple relish for example. Everything was so delicious- it was like a party in the mouth. We absolutley LOVED the Mango Sago and the Moroccan Orange Cake for dessert was divine! Our cocktail was also great. (Russian Rule). Service was also friendly from both Vanitha and the young waiter who served us. Can't wait to come back and try...

The nasi lemak with Malay chicken and potato curry (or beef renang and potato) for $19.50 is an absolute steal, delicious, and you'll be as full as a goog. The Hainanese Chicken Rice (Fri and Sat dinner only) is next level and, again, a steal at less than $30.
And the breakfasts... sweet heaven... if you're panging for your Penang-styled/SEAsian breakfasts, then this is your nirvana (open Sat -Sun 8am-3pm, but you can get brekky on Weds-Fri until 3pm).
You don't need to go to jump on a plane and spend thousands, when you can blow your tastebuds away in nearby Newport for...
