The journey to iSpicy started with a mission to find a great Tom Yum Soup. We were also searching for a new culinary adventure. A friend has been raving about Thai food, so this where we settled.
The decor of iSpicy is modern and uncluttered. An open kitchen in any establishment always fills me with confidence. The dining area is small but feels very open. The decor features a great innovation, a screen which displays photos of all the dishes, and short videos of how they are prepared. Watching this in house cooking show certainly warms up taste buds.
The staff are attentive. BYO is allowed and a large selection of beer, wine and spirits are available. Take-away can be ordered.
The menu has a great variety, it was hard to narrow down what we wanted to try. For entree we tried the Chicken Satay Skewers ($8 x 4), presented on shredded cabbage. Starting with a tangy taste, it is followed by the delicious peanut taste. Certain a wonderful introduction of what was to follow. The Tom Yum Soup ($8) was very spicy, with a subtle tomato taste, full of vegetables. We tried both the chicken and prawn, and both were at their hot and sour best.
For the mains we tried the Green Beef Curry ($16), Crispy Pork Salad ($15), and Thai Chicken Fried Rice ($12), washed down with a jug of Homemade Thai Lemon Iced Tea ($8). All dishes used the freshest ingredients, layered with a variety of herbs, and all bursting with flavour.
The curry is served on a stand, heated with by a tea-light. For the price the serving wasn't large, had almost no veggies and mainly sauce. The crispy skin on the pork was perfect, and the salad has a bend of flavours even salad haters like myself could eat more of. The fried rice came with large pieces of chicken. As the name iSpicy suggest, all dishes are spicy, but what makes it great is the abundance of fresh herbs and ingredients.
Water was served without asking, accompanied by cute stainless steel cups. Though a jug of Homemade Thai Iced Lemon Tea is the way to go, even if it could come it much less ice. Simply the best iced tea I have ever had. After we finished the meal, I said I could drink another jug, but one can only consume so much.
Observing the plates on other tables, I noticed the whole fish (around $20-$25), and the beef stuffed calamari, which I am sure to try when I head back with my fish fiend friend. Everything looked great. A customer suggested I try the Fried Banana Fritter, but I had gorged myself.
The service is good, but still needs a little refining. We had to ask for napkins, chopsticks and bowls to share. It felt strange eating Asian dishes with western cutlery. I have since googled, finding that using chopsticks for Thai food is not the etiquette, but one uses the fork to push the food onto the spoon, so that was ignorance on my part. But, they are happy to supply chopsticks. Communicating with waiters can be difficult as their English was very basic which led us to ordering extra rice ($3 pp) which we didn't need. At the time, they had ran out of take-away menus, and they don't have a website.
Doggy bags are provided.
Restaurants come and go on Victoria Street, and at the time of writing iSpicy is just three months old. I certainly hope that it continues to strive ahead. They are a little more pricey than what else is on offer on the strip.
A convert to Thai food has been made. I cannot wait to show off iSpicy to friends, and get another jug of that...

Richmond is a hidden gem when it comes to food, and this place is definitely in my good books. This restaurant was recommended to me by DoorDash, and while perusing through the menu, I saw the typical dishes, which is completely fine by the way. I was happy with my order, that's for sure.
🍜♨️
From the menu I ordered a Spicy Noodle (Spicy Chicken, $16) and Vegetable Spring Rolls ($6) respectively. My eager waiting was finally answered when I opened the box to the delicious smell of spices, herbs and chicken, with the unmistakable anticipation that comes with it. The spring rolls, I'm not going to lie, I wasn't expecting so many spring rolls (12!) at this price. Here's the thing, the quality wasn't compromised by the quantity. The rolls were delicious, warm and crunchy, just as one would expect them to be.
The noodles were excellent! Chock full of veggies, they didn't skimp on the meat, and I think the noodles were simply the best (perhaps soy noodles?). The layers of flavours, the overall texture of the food were just on point. There are some noodles that make you want to keep eating more and more. This was it.
🔥😀
The next time I'm in Richmond, I'm definitely visiting this place and trying out their other offerings. Highly...
Read moreSo lucky I went here w my partner and a mate again. The service was good, friendly enough. There isn’t much seating so the restaurant focuses on take away, mainly because the kitchen takes up 3/4 of the internal space.
The food cooked to order, no pre made food here, and it was delicious, there were several highlights.
The spring rolls were really good, both the prawn and mixed spring rolls. The massaman beef was a highlight and the meat was really well cooked, it was soft chunky pieces of meat, in a nice sauce.
The thick rice noodles or chicken pad sie euw (I hope that’s the right spelling) was delicious, and I really enjoyed this as it was one of the best ones I’ve had in some time. Everything was exceptionally well cooked and the chicken moist.
The BBQ chicken was pieces of moist chicken pieces and very yummy. Although the sweet chilli sauce was far too sweet so I skipped that.
The roti bread was ok, but I wouldn’t order it again.
And the watermelon at the end of the meal was very nice thank you. Overall this was a solid meal and I will definitely...
