Great library with many spaces to occupy for privacy or for meetings. There's also an outdoor area out the back where it's lovely to sit and read or work in the sunshine. Meeting room available upstairs. Toilets upstairs. Elevator and stair access to upstairs. Approx 8 computers you can book to use. Printer available. Reading options are vast as this is part of City of Melbourne library so you can borrow from the catalogues of East Melbourne, City of Melbourne, Docklands, Kathleen Syme in Carlton, North Melbourne and Southbank libraries and pick up at any of those. Plenty of online options for borrowing too. Also there are plenty of DVD's, CD's, newspapers, magazines to borrow. The 'Hot Picks' section in each library is great - you can get some popular latest release DVD's and books for a one week hire rather than waiting to reserve them. One of the best libraries to attend and do other things than read. Downstairs you have the normal library set up with lounges and tables at the front to rest read and study. There's also a really useful printer scanner available.

Upstairs you have a noisier area where there are rows of longer tables. Great for groups. There's a cold water fountain, a little kitchenette with boiling water which doesn't really seem to be entirely for the public but I've seen people use it without consequence or reservations. Basically, if you've got the need I'm sure it's fine, just don't be too brazen.

Toilets up here and lots of wall sockets for recharging.

At the back there are even outdoor cafe style tables and chairs....

I’m not much of a book reader so I visit libraries mainly looking for a place to sit next to a plugger and work on my assignments because I always look for new places to do it. This is my first time to visit East Melbourne Library and compared to other libraries, this one feels ‘homey’ since it is located in the middle of a calm neighborhood. There are common area, kids area and computers downstairs. With a room upstairs with a fair amount of plugs. Outside they have some tables under the shade. Elevators, toilets and waterfountain!
