Jang Gun is one of the most well known restaurants in Melbourne's Koreatown of Healeys Lane. I have known for it so many years as I walk past it and dined a few times and even had them delivered to my suburb during Covid lockdowns where they performed home deliveries.
This restaurant can have a queue and sometimes if lucky, no queue and on this ocassion I came with my brother last night after 8PM, there was a queue and as a result had to wait for a while, possibly 30 minutes. When we got our table we have to order via. QR code and this restaurant, you pay at the end of the meal.
We ordered the 계란말이 (Cheese Egg Roll), 해물파전 (Seafood Pancake) with chilli and 오삼불고기 (Squid and Pork Bulgogi) and although the pancake in particular seemed to be on the pricier side, all 3 dishes were delicious! Especially the Cheese Egg Roll and Squid and Pork Bulgogi with the earlier I think is possibly the best one I've had ate in Melbourne. I definitely would love to try the fried chicken next time. Staff was also very friendly, kind and attentive and the service was fast.
They also offer 5% cash discount which is handy.
Overall, an amazing restaurant that I'll definitely return when craving Korean...
Read moreI'm pretty sure majority of the Google reviews are driven by this poster they have all over the store. It is very unethical when a business tries to bribe customers for a 5-star review. According to ACCC, it is illegal for a business to ask customers for a 5-star review.
We ordered the Original Fried Chicken with Fire Spicy Sauce on the side, Cheese Kimchi Pancake, LA Galbi Beef.
The highs... Fried Chick was our favorite, the batter was very crunchy and tasty, and they gave ample sauce which was also very tasty and very spicy.
However, it starts going downhill... The Cheese Kimchi Pancake was below average. It was very soggy and not very flavourful compared to others I have had. Lastly, the LA Galbi Beef was our least favorite. Presentation wise it looks very appetising, however it was overcooked and very tough to chew. The marinated beef ribs they have at BBQ King around the corner is a lot better IMO.
I don't regret giving this place a try, but I probably won't return as there are many other Korean restaurants in the area.
Reason for the score is mainly due to the bribing poster, otherwise I would have rated it...
Read moreFood was so-so only, and the staff are rude (specifically the girl with a nose piercing and guy with curly fringe). Requested to sit outside and they allowed, but when it suddenly started to pour after all our food arrived, all they said was we can’t move in and attempted to shift our table towards the wall which didn’t really prevent the rain from going into our foods. Worst is even though there was a table inside, they told us that because when we requested to sit outside so we can’t shift in. And that there were new customers who waited for 1-2 hours. We had rain water going into our food and our clothes being soaked by the rain … Attitude from the 2 staff mentioned above was also super bad, except the other staff who were helpful and friendly. They didn’t even offer to cover our food or bring them in. When they eventually let us shift in, curly fringe staff showed attitude when placing our plates on the table - not cool. Won’t recommend this, unless you want to risk your food and clothes being soaked in the rain if you sit outside. There are honestly more reasonably priced Korean places with better attitude staffs...
