My first time dining in this cosy coffee spot in the heart of Melbourne CBD and did not disappoint!

I know these guys get super busy at peak times so I came here on a quieter Tuesday morning and there were still plenty of takeaway orders but luckily I had a chance to sit down inside. There’s a small bar table at the window and two other tables inside. No outdoor seating as it’s a laneway with cars that pass through.

From the moment I walked in I was greeted by a friendly staff member. When I ordered a soy magic for dining in, it was the first time I was told that the milk would curdle at the top which of course being a soy drinker I knew already but I found it incredibly polite of them to notify me anyway.

I also ordered a baked pastry, the fruit danish (by Bakemono across the road, same laneway) and holy heck it was the tastiest pastry I’ve ever had. You will never want to eat another once you’ve tried Bakemono pastries. I forgot how good they were.

I sat at the bar window and it was so nice it just sip my coffee, eat my delicious pastry and enjoy people watching.

It does get busy but it’s worth dining in if you have time and if there’s space. Thanks to all the staff today who were on, the coffee was made perfectly btw and so tasty.

Can’t wait...

Absolutely loved my experience here! From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed—perfect for catching up with friends, a casual solo visit, or even a relaxed business meeting. The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive throughout my visit, which really added to the overall positive experience.

The menu offered a great variety, catering to both classic favourites and modern tastes. Every dish and drink I ordered was presented beautifully and tasted fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into sourcing quality ingredients and preparing each item to a high standard. I especially appreciated how prompt the service was, without ever feeling rushed.

The cleanliness and organisation of the venue also stood out—everything felt well-maintained and hygienic, which is always reassuring. Pricing was fair for the quality and portion sizes provided.

Overall, this place ticks all the right boxes: excellent food and drinks, outstanding service, relaxing atmosphere, and great value. It’s now one of my go-to spots, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a consistently enjoyable dining or cafe experience.

Looking forward to...

Really disappointed with this place. I came because of the good reviews, but honestly, the coffee and cake were average at best. What really ruined the experience was the service.

There were three of us, and we sat by the window where two seats were already taken. We took the remaining two, and one of us stood nearby — we weren’t taking up any extra space, and the cafĂ© wasn’t crowded at all. Still, a staff member told us we couldn’t stay because the area “only allows four people.”

No effort was made to ask if the other table (a three-seater being used by two people) could be swapped, or to help us in any other way. We were simply told to leave — drinks and cake already in hand.

If this is what they consider good customer service, then I’m definitely better off elsewhere. With so many great cafes in melb, this one really isn’t worth the hype. Overrated and not coming back.

Update - I was told they actually have a backyard. Honestly, what a joke.

To the owner: The apology is appreciated. If the intention had been explained at the time, it would have been understandable. A friendlier and more flexible approach could’ve avoided the feeling of...

The flat white tasted like a babycino—flat and unimpressive, leaving no memorable impression. I’m not sure if it was due to too few grams of coffee beans or an imbalanced ratio, but it didn’t match the overall vibe of the cafĂ©. The service also felt rather rigid. There were three of us, and we ordered both brownies and coffee. However, the owner wouldn’t let us sit by the window, explaining that the window seats were “for four people, and only two seats were left, so three people couldn’t sit there.” Yet right next to us, two ladies were occupying an entire table, with one of their scarves even taking up a seat. Why is it that their scarves could have a seat, but paying customers with brownies couldn’t sit down? I don’t get it. I felt the situation could have been rearranged, but the owner insisted that we leave. It was baffling—none of it added up, and the logic simply didn’t make sense. That said, to be fair, the brownie was actually delicious. I sincerely hope the cafĂ© can take our feedback with an open mind and improve their service attitude.

The cafe offers a range of drinks and very little options of sweet treats with a particular focus on matcha-based. While the matcha here is certainly delicious, it is a bit on the expensive side, which may put some customers off. One downside of Little Rouge is the limited seating space. The cafe is quite small, and there are only a few tables available for customers. This means that it can be difficult to find a spot to sit during peak hours, and most customers need to take their drinks to go. One thing that sets Little Rouge apart from other cafes is its focus on premium matcha. This makes it a great spot for those who want to enjoy a drink without the jitters that can come from too much caffeine. A great spot to grab a delicious matcha-based drink or a non-caffeine beverage. While it is a bit on the pricey side, the quality of the drinks and the friendly service make it a worthwhile stop for those in the area. Just be prepared to grab a spot quickly or take your drink to go!
