Kumo is a delightful souffle pancake shop in the heart of the city, and it’s every bit worth the visit!
From the moment we stepped in, the welcoming atmosphere was set by the friendly and hospitable manager, Jin, who made us feel right at home. Jin’s customer-first approach truly shines, fostering a warm, inviting environment that all the staff reflect.
We had the pleasure of meeting several wonderful team members during our visit. Mai, a lovely staff member, not only provided excellent service but also shared some fantastic Thai restaurant recommendations. We tried one so far, and she was spot-on!
Miriam, another amazing team member, went above and beyond to make us feel special. She was friendly, attentive, and even took a fun photo with us, adding a personal touch to our experience.
Another fantastic staff member Nann's recommendation of the Berry Broulee hit the spot! We were unsure at first as we thoroughly enjoyed the Bobba Broulee, and she was kind enough to offer a complimentary Bobba side just in case. However, the Berry option was perfect. Not too sweet, and perfectly complimented the souffle pancake!
The souffle pancakes themselves are outstanding, with a large variety to choose from. The pandan flavor was the standout for us, perfectly paired with creamy ice cream, a coconut-flair infused syrup, and a dollop of whipped cream.
Kumo also offers an impressive selection of both cold and warm drinks, making it easy to find a perfect match for the pancakes. It’s worth noting that there’s often a line-up, but the wait isn’t too long, and the pancakes are more than worth it.
There’s a cheerful girl Lucy who is currently in training, and it’s clear that under Jin’s guidance, she’s well on her way to becoming a valued part of the team. Always greeting her customers with a picture perfect smile!
Jin has truly cultivated a customer-focused, friendly culture among all the staff members, making Kumo a place we can’t wait to return to.

Read moreKumo Desserts, a highly recommended establishment among Melbourne's food enthusiasts, was a must-visit on my culinary journey. The moment I approached the storefront, I was welcomed with a warm smile and ushered inside with genuine hospitality.
Contrary to my expectations, the menu was not extensive, but it became clear that their focus was on perfecting a select few items - particularly their immaculate soufflé pancakes.
I decided to try two items: the Nomtella pancake and the Junior Hot Chocolate. The Nomtella pancake, a delightful concoction filled with crunchy Nutella, was served with a side of gelato and fresh strawberries. The Junior Hot Chocolate, as recommended by the staff, was the sweeter of their two hot chocolate offerings.
As I waited for my order, I took the opportunity to appreciate the café's modern and spacious interior, conveniently located just around the corner from Melbourne Central.
When my order arrived, I was eager to sample the much-acclaimed pancake. The pancake was so soft that my fork glided through it effortlessly, a testament to its exquisite texture. The first bite was a symphony of flavours - the soft pancake, the sweet Nutella filling, all enhanced by the accompanying vanilla gelato. It was an irresistible combination that I finished before I knew it.
Next, I turned my attention to the hot chocolate. As someone with a pronounced sweet tooth, I found it less chocolaty and slightly watery, preferring a richer, more chocolaty flavour. However, this is purely a matter of personal preference.
What caught my eye, however, was the unique design of the cup and saucer in which my hot chocolate was served. As an engineering student, I appreciate such innovative design elements, and this puzzle-like fit was a highlight of my dining experience at KUMO.
In conclusion, my visit to Kumo Desserts was a delightful experience, and I look forward to returning for the...
Read moreWhenever I visit the CBD, I ensure I visit here for my favourite dessert before heading back home! Location: Easy to find as it's right next to shopping centre, public transport pretty much drops you off at their doorstep with less than 50m walk. Expect a queue upon arrival however, they turn the people out pretty quickly so you're not waiting too long to get in. Worth waiting for anyway! Presentation: Always clean including toilets. Lovely smellies and handsoap too. Experience: Always busy, lots of families, couples, groups. Can be noisy but hey, it's understandable with how packed the place can get! In saying that, I've never felt as though it was over crowded, crammed. It's almost like they are aware of that therefore strategically ensure that doesn't happen. Food: I think if you have never tried a souffle pancake, come here! Sooo delicious, light, fluffy with yummy toppings. My favorite is Nutella and Strawberries which the nutella is cleverly hidden in the middle of the pancake! So when you cut into it, it oozes out, yummmm :) Just sinfully delicious, I am addicted! My favorite drink is their ginger gyuzu lemonade made with real ginger grated into it. Price point: Fair at roughly $20-28 pp including a drink otherwise it's less than $20 for dessert on it's own. Staff are attentive and service is pretty quick. Only one time we've had a hiccup when one dessert didn't come out and when we brought it to their attention, they quickly rectified it. OVERALL: my favourite dessert place for Japanese souffle pancakes and I've tried a couple different places in the CBD and Kumo is hard to...
